This really got me thinking about all of the great bands from Central Mass. The majority of my playlists are firmly cemented in the early 2000’s and haven’t changed in about 20 years, so I always look forward to this slice of the local scene. Voting was still live when we went to press, but the talented Brian Dowd was able to catch up with the artists who will be performing throughout the awards ceremony. This lineup celebrates the talent that makes Central Mass. music worth coming out for!
The WMA’s will be at Off the Rails on Sept. 3, and, of course, all are welcome to this free event. This will be the third year in a row comedian and number one dad, Shaun Connolly, is hosting the awards. Sometimes I feel like we should rename Pulse “The Shaun Connolly Chronicles,” because he’s always up to something cool around the city. One of my favorite parts of the show are the live performances. We’re welcoming Colt and the Coyotes and Young Man Winter back for a second year in a row. I’m looking forward to Legacy Legend and Whiskey 6 as well. It’s going to be a great show from start to finish.
There are so many talented artists in the city, and we always try to recognize as many as we can, but the voting process isn’t a perfect science. If we missed an amazing musician let us know! Email me at editor@merithousemedia.com but try to be nice because I’m fragile and teetering at the edge at all times. We’re always looking for new categories to include, and I’m already planning on adding “Band That Needs a Reunion” for next year. I know it’s a year away but I’m nominating The Chase Scene and the rule is if you win you have to throw a show.
The Worcester Music Awards are one really fun event in a city where you can find live music any night of the week. This is the perfect time for me to plug our Pulse emails for weekend suggestions, and, obviously, the internet exists, so there are lots of ways to find shows. So support the local scene, come to the WMA’s, discover new artists and let us know who we should be highlighting!
