When The Moon Hits Your Eye: Worcester’s second annual PizzaFest will take place Saturday October 11th at Greater Good Brewery. Sponsored by Cantiani Insurance, Greater Good Brewery, Baystate Bank and Renewal by Anderson, this fun-filled event will have live music, games and pizza from about a dozen local pizza places. It runs from 12 to 5 pm and only costs $5, with free admission for kids 10 and under.

Awe Nuts: It was a long run, 43 years but Soup to Nuts Café in Sturbridge has closed its doors. The café was located at 559 Main Street in the Fiskedale section of the town.

Happy Anniversary: Ladds Restaurant in Rutland is celebrating 25 years in business. This place is a throwback to another generation with solid food in a rustic setting.

Let’s All Rally: Gold Star Boulevard is becoming the fast-food mecca for Worcester. It looks like the old Honey Dew donuts will soon reopen as a Rally’s Checkers hamburger joint.

This Is Gold: Ed Hyder’s Mediterranean Marketplace on Worcester’s Pleasant Street is celebrating their golden anniversary for 50 years in business. Founded by Ed Hyder, the second generation is now running the place. Congrats to Miriam and Greg Hyder, the brother and sister duo, for carrying on the family tradition which goes back three generations.

From Sushi To Salsa: According to signs on the building, Kenzo’s Sushi & Steakhouse in Westboro is about to become Ranch Alegere, a Mexican restaurant. No word on an opening date yet.

It’s The Place: The Place is the name of a new place soon to open in the Canal District.  It will be in the space that formerly housed Ju’s and before that Broth.

Another Public Market Spot: TapaVino is one of the newest stands that recently opened in Worcester’s Public Market located in the Canal District. The name implies that they will be serving wine and tapas

Seven From Heaven: Worcester’s Beechwood Hotel will be offering a seven-course wine dinner on Friday October 17th at 6 pm for just $218, which includes tax and tip.  The posting does not list the wines for this spectacular evening, but I’m willing to bet they will be top notch.

Downtown: It looks like a new place will be open at the former home of Woosta Pizza. Nahomie Restaurant, LLC, will soon open at 407 Main Street, which once housed a McDonald’s.

One Opens And One Moves: The Basement LLC at 336 Main Street, which has been closed for a while, will be moving to 225 Shrewsbury Street, the former home of All Systems Go, a gaming venue which was behind Mexicalli. The Main Street location was the Venue at one time.

Gee Whiz: Don’t know the new name yet, but 3 G’s on Worcester’s Millbury Street has new owners and a new concept. Restaurants, Bars, Lounges, and Clubs, LLC, will soon open at 152 Millbury Street.

Mark Your Calendars: O’Connor’s began offering Sunday brunch on September 21st.
