Fat Tuesday – February 28
Mardi Gras comes to the Canal District again this year on Fat Tuesday – February 28 – when the district will be buzzing all night long with New Orleans-style revelry.
Some 20 local venues have booked live music for the evening, offering beads, masks, and drink and menu specials. Street performers will be fire-spinning on the sidewalks; and the district will be hopping til the wee hours.
Prizes will be awarded for the popular photo-scavenger hunt, which sends participants throughout the district in quest of designated photo-ops; and a best-dressed king and queen will be crowned at the height of the evening. Beer sponsor Magic Hat will sponsor a raffle for tickets and accommodations for two to the upcoming Mardi Gras festivities in Burlington, Vermont, the weekend of March 12.
The event will kick off at 6:30 p.m., right at Kelley Square, with Dixieland music, free munchies, and a spectacular performance by Sasha the Fire Gypsy.
This is the sixth year of Mardi Gras festivities in the Canal District, which are organized and sponsored by the Canal District Alliance (www.thecanaldistrict.com).
