Bringing History Backlogo-copy

The Registry Restaurant, located at 264 Park Avenue in Worcester, only opened back in November, but has already made a name for itself in the community by offering great food, atmosphere and history.

Owner Steve Hopkins, who also owns Blue Jean Pizza and Loft 266 Bar and Lounge, says about opening a third member of the already successful group, “The Registry is all American and we thought it would compliment them [the Blue Jeans and Loft] well. They work well together, as all the food that is made for Loft 266 by chef Sergio Barroso is made at The Registry.”

182227_168027833245490_155-copyThe location is full of history, including the origin of the restaurant’s name. Hopkins explains, “The first Registry of Motor Vehicles was in this location, that’s what the building was designed for. It made it difficult for renovations. We had to go before the historical commission to approve any renovations. In the 20s, Park Ave. was known as ‘Automobile Row.’ There were many dealerships and car companies.”

The restaurant’s dining room is filled with car-themed décor. “During renovations, my son, Justin found a plate glass window that says ‘RMV’ on it. It’s hanging in the dining room,” Hopkins says. You’ll also find 50 license plates ranging from 1908 to present, old photos of Worcester, and traffic and street signs. The dining room, which seats 99, and small bar area fill with songs from Chuck Berry, Frank Sinatra and Motown.

The car theme continues with the food. Hopkins says, “Many of our menu items have a car theme including Cadillac steak tips, Studebacon burger and Route 66 burrito.” Other items include the Registry roasted eggplant and seafood cioppino. Apps range from $3.99 – $6.99, salads $5.99 – $7.99, sandwiches $6.99-$8.99 and entrees $9.99 – $21.99.
The Registry also offers special events. Be sure to check out College, Children’s, Ladies’ and Buffet Nights! Don’t worry about parking, there’s plenty around the back!
