Mother’s Day. Don’t forget Mother’s Day, coming up on Sunday, May 11th. What better way to treat Mom than to take her brunch or dinner at one of Central MA’s great restaurants.

Coming soon. The Mill is the name of the new restaurant opening up in the space that once housed Anglio’s on West Boylston St. in West Boylston. It is right before the Wal-Mart.

More West Boylston news. Oli’s is the name of the new restaurant that will open in June next to Gerardo’s Bakery on West Boylston St. Tom Oliveri, Sr., who started the family restaurant empire, will be operating the eatery. Oliveri, whose family also owns Peppercorns, Wormtown Brewery, Elsa’s and Prezzo, which is in Milford, started with a sandwich shop in Worcester’s Tatnuck Square ~ Elsa’s Bushel n Peck. The new restaurant will seat 60 people.

Shrewsbury St. to get new Japanese steak house. The old Coldwell Banker office on Shrewsbury St. (next to Victory Cigar) will soon be converted into a Japanese steakhouse complete with tepanaki tables. The new proprietors also own the 7 Nana Japanese Steakhouse in Billerica. Watch for a fall opening.

The best service in America. Our very own Sonoma restaurant in Princeton was chosen as one of the 50 best restaurants for service in American. The Open Table Diner’s Choice Awards were chosen from over 12,000 restaurants nominated nationally. Oven 7 million diners voted in the yearlong competition. Sonoma is helmed by Chef Bill Brady.

The sign is up. It looks like the Mexicali Grille will open soon on Rte 9 in the center of Spencer. We’ll keep you posted.

Speaking of Mexican. Mezcal, on Worcester’s Shrewsbury St., recently opened for lunch. Stop in and sample some of the best Mexican food in the area. Their fresh made guacamole is to die for.

Sole gets new chef. Worcester’s Sole Proprietor recently added Brian Flagg as a new Executive Chef, joining Chef Joseph Wong. Flaggs was named Providence’s best new chef in 1994, was chosen by the Governor to represent MA at the 2006 Great American Seafood Cook-Off, and has served as Executive Chef for some of the region’s top restaurants. Most recently, Flagg served as Executive Chef of the Millennium Boston Hotel. Before that, he was the Regional Executive Chef for Jasper White’s Summer Shack.

Shrewsbury St. pub crawl. A Shrewsbury St. Pub Crawl to benefit the Lupus Foundation takes place on May 14. For a $20 donation, you get to drink at 4 of Shrewsbury St.’s best restaurants. Start off at Brew City at 1pm, then move onto LaScala, and from there to The Flying Rhino before ending the afternoon at Funky Murphy’s. There will be free appetizers and live music at each venue. The whole event will be hosted by former New England Patriots tight end Christian Fauria.

Big Brother/Big Sisters. A Taste of Something Big, a benefit for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Central MA, will be held on Wed., May 11th at 6pm. Then a wine tasting at Indian Meadows Country Club on Route 9 in Westboro will feature the wines of the Rodney Strong Vineyard.
