Fire and Swords and Snakes – OH MY!
By Jillian Locke
Behind the curtain of the Lucky Daredevil Thrillshow lies not only a myriad of death-defying feats, but a necessary bond ~ a trust ~ that is essential for carrying out stunts of this caliber. Husband and wife duo Tyler Fyre and Thrill Kill Jill spend the majority of the year out of the road, constantly pushing their skills, their abilities, and their complete and utter trust to the furthest possible limits.
“We are not magicians. We don’t do any magic or illusion in our show or anywhere at all,” Tyler explaines. “So with no illusion, we have no secrets from the audience. Every act we do in the show is done with technique and training. It’s fun to watch, because it’s unusual, and empowering to see the human body pushed to and past the breaking point, only to see it survive with a smile.”
Tyler Fyre has been immersed in the circus circuit for over a decade, touring with the Coney Island Circus Sideshow and acting as MC of Burlesque-A-Pades with the World Famous Pontani Sisters, which is where he and his sideshow soul mate connected. Thrill Kill Jill was the designer for The Palace of Wonders, an oddities museum in Washington, and was scouting the burlesque show for new talent for the museum’s live variety performances. “It’s [Burlesque-A-Pades] the best touring show I’ve ever been with, and on Valentine’s Day in 2006, I met the love of my life,” Fyre reminisces.
A year later, after they were married by “Elvis” in Las Vegas, the Lucky Daredevil Thrillshow was born. The sword-swallowing, fire-eating, snake-charming duo travel the country with one mission ~ to shock, amuse, entertainment, and leave audiences in complete awe. “Lucky Daredevil Thrillshow is a fast-paced and funny, death-defying daredevil stunt spectacular with the glitter, glamour, and gut-wrenching thrills of a Vegas show ~ guaranteed to please, amuse, and amaze,” says Fyre.
Attendees of the Mass Tattoo and Arts Festival in Sturbridge witnessed the blaze of sideshow glory first hand last year. “The first act in the show is sword swallowing, and it’s when we get to know the audience. We both swallow swords, and an audience volunteer comes up to join us for some sword swallowing fun. The sword act ends with an act we invented ~ the flaming sword fireball. We’ve been doing this act for a long time. It flows easily and puts us in a good mood for the whole show,” says Fyre. Thrill Kill Jill brought out her lovelies at the convention, sharing her penchant for handling ~ and even swallowing ~ her three ginoromous snakes. They go by “Taker,” an 8 foot long, 60lb. Columbian Red Tail Boa, “Evel,” an 11 foot, 35 lb. Albino Burmese Python, and “Fang,” a 9 foot, 20 lb. Normal Burmese Python. “All snakes bite. Mine just don’t bite me anymore,” Jill says with a smile.
Next year, this dastardly, death-defying duo will once again grace the convention at the Sturbridge Host Hotel and Convention Center from March 18th-20th, with their dynamic and death-defying act, offering Central MA a taste of a life less ordinary.
