Relish closes. Relish, the Barre restaurant located in the center of town and owned by Glenn Gonyea, closed its doors the last week of November. Gonyea, a talented chef, had operated the place for a couple of years, serving innovative cuisine in a pleasant country setting. He will be missed, but I’m sure you will find him manning the range someplace else very soon.
Chicago’s best pizza. It appears, according to Time Out Chicago, the Windy City’s arts & entertainment weekly, that the best thin crust pizza in the Chicago is made by Worcester native Jay Spillane at his Coal Fire Pizza. Spillane, who grew up on Grafton Hill, was also picked by Oprah Winfrey as Chicago’s Best Bartender and has appeared regularly on her show. Maybe he stole the Wonder Bar’s recipe for dough…or is it the high temperature oven?
Salty Dog in Kelley Sq. It appears that the Salty Dog, a Springfield based bar and club, will be opening soon in Kelly Square in the space that is presently occupied by Prime Mortgage. The building, which faces the square, also houses Wings over Worcester. There will be plenty of parking on site. Look for a February opening. By the way, the other locations of the Salty Dog in Springfield, MA and New Haven, CT feature a mechanical bull. So now all you fans of Professional Bull Riding can get in on the action for yourselves.

According to a statement by the family, they are seeking a new location, preferably in Sturbridge.
Suney’s Pub gets a face lift. Suney’s Pub, located on Worcester’s Chandler Street, recently underwent an extreme makeover. The Pub, which has been a mainstay for over 30 years, has a nice new look and feel to it. We hear that the food is still as good as ever.
Ronnie’s gets competition. TJ’s Seafood will soon be opening in Auburn on Route 12 in the location that formerly housed a Bickford’s. Look for an early 2008 opening.

I went to this restaurant, it is Liberian (i.e., West African) not S.E. Asian. It is a quintessential Worcster Hole in the Wall kinda place, great (very unique) food and really nice folks running the place. Definitely worth checking it out.
Thanks for the tip – even if the continent was wrong – it was your posting that got me there!
