D.J. Soup started wreckin’ turntables while in high school at Voke, destroying his mom’s record player in one hour flat. Cold busted her needle. She was pissed. These days, D.J. Soup is wrecking the sound set, hittin’ Worcester Thursday thruough Sunday nights with the hottest hiphop, crunk, reggae, house, and 80z mixes at REHAB nightclub at the Irish Times in downtown Worcester. And nobody is pissed about that.
Soup started makin’ remixes in the 80s, splicing The Doors together with the Beastie Boys. “I still do my own crazy hiphop remixes and play ‘em to the party people at REHAB. They seem to love ‘em…I got ‘em on my myspace page. Check ‘em.” The DJ Soup Timbaland/Journey mashup is worth a listen. Easy to see how party people get down to that fresh looney sound.
“My Thursday crowd at REHAB is crazy ~ energetic college kids. They can get wild. I play ‘em club hiphop like Fat Man Scoop, Ying Yang Twinz, Lil’ John, Pitbull ~ anything from the dirty South gets ‘em crazy. Any hiphop song that has “Ass” in the title ~ they get nuts. I’ve been flashed, I’ve seen girls makin’ out on the bah…stuff like that…. Thursday nights are crazy. Come check it out. By 11:00, the dance floor is packed.”
Checkin’ the photos of the Rehab party on myspace, it looks bonkers. The dancefloor is completely crammed with dancin’ foolz! How berserk does it get at Rehab? “One night a kid did a “Spiderman” across the light truss. It was around midnight, the place was PACKED ~ the lights were flashin’ like crazy ~ I turn around and there’s a kid crawling across the light truss, Spidey style. WTF??!”
Soup knows how to do it to the party people, adding his own video and still images as a backdrop to his bangin’ club mixes. He’s got love for other Worcester’s DJs, too. “The Lucky Dog is a favorite place of mine… I go see D.J. Shame ~ I like to spin his records too.”
Nowadays, it’s Soup on the 1s and 2s doin’ it for Worcester’s premiere club experience at REHAB ~and get this, he’s available for private parties, too. Party people, Soup’s on!
