Don’t Always Believe What You See on TV
By Annette Cinelli
With TV shows like “Medium” and “Ghost Whisperer” cropping up everywhere, we decided to see for ourselves how a self-proclaimed real psychic compared to her Hollywood counterparts. The results were pretty interesting.
A few weeks ago, I set out to get a full psychic reading ~ palms and tarot cards ~ done by Lola Miller. And from the moment I arrived, the experience what nothing like I had expected.
There was no weird music, no incense, and no crystal ball. Lola does her readings right in the foyer of her house; the setup is very simple looking, just a small table with a chair on either side. There were some Egyptian pictures, including one of Queen Nefertiti, and a sculpted figure of King Tut, but nothing outlandish. Lola was dressed casually in a pink t-shirt and jeans and was younger than I’d assumed she would be.
We started with the Tarot cards, which Lola had me shuffle as many times as I wanted before she split them into four separate piles. I then chose the pile for her to use for my reading. She spread the cards them across the table and told me that she would not hold anything back; any visions she saw or vibes she felt ~ whether they were good or bad ~ she would let me know. For me, this was a definite sign that she was the real thing.
Lola spoke quickly and confidently, explaining that being able to do this kind of reading was nothing she had learned in a book or class; rather, it was something with which she had been born. After she laid the cards out, she started the palm reading. I had expected her to just look at one of my hands, but instead she had me put both of them in front of her, face up. She did not take hold of then, but began studying my palms and their intricate lines thoroughly but quickly. Then she made eye contact as she told me what she had seen.
A few things Lola said really hit home for me. As she was reading my palm, she told me that she saw a split in my love line, meaning that I had two soul mates: one was a companion, a friend, a person to pass the time with, and another was the person I was meant to love, marry and with whom I was to grow old. My stomach fluttered because I knew exactly the two men to whom she was referring. One of my best friends is a guy and I have been closer to him than to some of the guys I have dated; he is a rare kind of friend, someone I never question and someone whom I know is always going to be part of my life. The other, I believe is (and according to Lola definitely is) my current boyfriend whom I’ve known for years and been dating for six months.
As she continued to study my palms, she also told me about my health line and what she saw in my professional future. She spoke while she examined my palms and there were no awkward silences. Lola made me feel comfortable the entire time and there was no sense of anything forced or fake. There was nothing scary or intimidating as movies or TV shows sometimes portray psychic readings to be. Her eyes didn’t roll back into her head, she didn’t start rocking back and forth or chanting in a different language ~ there was nothing freaky, nothing weird at all. It made me realize how many misconceptions I’d had about psychics.
Once Lola finished reading my palms, she looked at the cards and then briefly studied my face. She explained that she could get a sense of who I was and what my future held from the spirits and vibes in the room. She did not say anything specific about the placement of the cards or what they meant individually, but rather spoke to me about what she saw and felt based on the combination of the cards, spirits, and vibes.
Before the reading started, I’d half figured that I’d hear nothing but good news and vague, generic insights about my personality, statements that could apply to anyone. I was pleased and surprised at how accurate Lola was both about my personality and about specific elements of my life that she would have had no way of knowing other than through psychic intuition.
She saw, among other things, that I am outgoing, friendly, stubborn, and a fighter, and that I have a good sense of humor and am caring. She accurately listed elements of my personality matter-of-factly, as if she had known me on a personal basis for a while and was just stating the obvious. The certainty in her voice made the whole experience more believable, from what she revealed about my future in life and love to how she was able to speak with insight about my health, career, and family.
Once the reading was over, Lola gave me a chance to ask her questions about anything and everything that it had revealed. She even assured me that one of the wishes I’d made during the session would come true. And do you know what? I for one believe that it will.
