Dress up & get down

October 2004 – Although the beloved Spooky World Theme Park has been dismantled and auctioned off piece-by-piece, don’t fret. Central Mass will be haunted by a host of Halloween happenings throughout the month. Get ready to dress up and get down.

The Lucky Dog Music Hall

This year, the Lucky Dog Music Hall, located at 89 Green Street in Worcester, will drip with Halloween spirit. On Friday, October 29, the Black Sabbath tribute band, Electric Funeral, will belt out Ozzy favorites. Voodoo Screw Machine and Red Army (featuring members of The Balls) will kick things off at 8 p.m.

If you’re a zombie, you better stay home on Saturday. The Deadites and their monster hunting organization the Twilight Society will be partying with Vein Cage (featuring members of Chillum and East Coast Psychos) from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.

On Halloween, Disco Hell and DJ Soup with Villain will be throwing a costume party from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. “Prizes, prizes and more prizes” will be awarded by the Disco Hell staff judges. Visit the Lucky Dog online at www.luckydogmusic.com for more information.

Ye Olde Tavern

On Friday, October 22, Uncle Billy’s Smokehouse and Goofyfoot will rock the 8th Annual Halloween Bash. Both bands will keep it hopping with ample originals and covers and DJ J. Thomas will man the wheels of steel during set breaks.

Costumes are required at “the largest costume party west of Worcester.” Admission is only $5 with a costume and “only a couple of bucks more if you need to be provided with one.” Prizes will be awarded for the best three, so put your thinking caps on and get your sewing kits out – or your welding tools if your costume requires – and get ready to party down at Ye Old Tavern on Route 9 in West Brookfield.

The 21+ event is hosted by West Brookfield residents Brian Silva and Jesse Serrano and sponsored by The Pulse Magazine and SMD Lighting.

Tammany Hall

Stay funky with Uncle Billy’s Smokehouse Syndicate Halloween Bash at Tammany Hall (43 Pleasant Street, Worcester) on Saturday, October 30. The P-Funky grooves of White Chocolate and the Black Crowesy, Allman Brothers-infused sounds of Uncle Billy’s will rock the costumed crowd all night. Admission is free with a costume and $150 will be awarded to the first prize winner of the costume contest. The Palladium

The folks at the Palladium have some Halloween fun cooking in the depths their bubbling black cauldron. On Sunday, October 31, the Second Annual Fright Fest will blow audiences away with performances by Twiztid, Blaze, House of Krazees and Wolfpac. Tickets are $30 and the show will be downstairs. The Compound

Need your palm read? The Compound on Lunenburg Street in Fitchburg has got you covered. On Friday, October 22, 2004, Fireball Liquors will sponsor Devil’s Night at the Compound, with free psychic readings. On Saturday, October 30, the Compound hosts its 3rd Annual Halloween Party. Club Liquid

Club Liquid will throw its All Hallows Eve Party on Friday, October 29. On Saturday, October 30, the Alice Cooper tribute band, Prince of Darkness, will descend on the stage to crank out Cooper’s best. Shrewsbury Street

There are rumors circulating that the Shrewsbury Street Merchants Association is pulling together a Halloween parade, which may tentatively take place on the Friday before All Hallows Eve. Also, Jeff’s Place, The Flying Rhino, Zipango’s Sushi Bar and Bottom’s Up Bar and Grill are planning to join forces again this year for another large-scale Halloween party, so keep your fingers crossed and ears open.
