From Atlantic to Pacific: It appears that Atlantic Oyster Bar which closed down In Public Market, is slated to become a Korean Fusion restaurant, owned by Drew Gray formerly of the Flying Rhino Café.
Signs, Signs Everywhere a Sign: Restaurants for lease or sale signs have recently popped up. Lock 50 on Water Street has a for sale sign, while Brew City on Shrewsbury Street has a for lease sign, ditto for the Table Talk Pie Store.
It Was Greek To Me: Zorbas located on Worcester’s Stafford Street closed down a couple of months ago. The Greek restaurant recently sold and will soon become a Chinese eatery, featuring Hot Pot and a Chinese buffet. The concept of hot pot is you cook your own food tableside. We also have been told that they will offer a Chinese buffet, something that has mostly disappeared due to covid.
Big News: If you haven’t heard the news, you may be living under a keg. Worcester’s iconic Wormtown Brewery was sold at the end of April to Jack’s Abby Beer of Framingham. Word is that they will keep Shrewsbury Streets Tap room but move production. What’s a tap room without the order of hops?
It’s The Shaking Crab vs. Menkiti Group: It appears that downtown Worcester’s plan for a new restaurant across from the Hanover Theatre has hit a snag. Negotiations over the hood venting system have moved at a snail’s pace. The restaurant owners want a vent that goes through the building to the roof while the Menkiti Group wants to punch through a wall. We’ll keep you posted on any developments!
The Colonel & Popeye Are Worried: It looks like a Korean Fried chicken restaurant will soon open in downtown Worcester in the space that once housed the Protein Houser at 145 Front Street prior to Covid. Cluck and Crispy Chicken will be owned by Lin and Danny Li. Lin currently owns Hong Kong Island at Worcester’s Summitt.
Mezcal Moves: It looks like Mezcal has relocated to its new digs on Worcester’s East Central Street in the space that once housed Pub 99 and Aku Aku years ago. The move was slated to happen the last week of May.
Bombay Is Back: Bombay Lounge on Worcester’s Water Street reopened at the beginning of May. They claimed to be doing some repairs. As its name may imply, they serve Indian Cuisine.
It Took Two Years: Leo’s Ristorante, off of Shrewsbury Street finally has its parking back. They have 30 spaces after being impacted by Alta on the Row, a new housing imitative on Worcester’s East Central Street.
A Little After Cinco de Mayo: Condesa Restaurante Mexicano, located in the Sturbridge Plaza at 178 Main Street, had its ribbon cutting the 3rd week of May
The Game’s Getting Real: It took a long time but the owners behind 158 Sports Grill Garage appeared before the Worcester License Commission. Reginaldo Grilo, a Northborough resident who also owns 135 Grill in Framingham,, is seeking to open the sports bar and restaurant on Foster Street in Worcester. This site was the former home of a couple of places, the last being Shoah’s.
