Ora Lin, 14-year-old acrobat and aerialist, of Worcester has joined Circus Smirkus, the country’s only traditional traveling youth circus!
Currently, Lin trains at Eastern Acrobatics and Circus in Ashland and New England Center for Circus Arts in Brattleboro, Vt. After submitting an audition tape to Smirkus headquarters in Greensboro, Vt. last fall, Lin was called for a live audition back in January. She will travel and work with 29 other performers with ages ranging from 10 to 18.
With skills such as clowning, acrobatics, juggling, unicycling and more, the performers are set to travel to Greensboro, Vt., this June for intense rehearsals at Smirkus headquarters lasting for three weeks. Following rehearsal, they’ll hit the road for a 68-show tour, spanning more than 16 cities and towns in the Northeast over a period of seven weeks. After gaining the title as “Smirkos,” they’ll join fellow troupers in tasks such as maintaining props, selling concessions and working cooperatively with the professional tent crew, equipment riggers, musicians and others who travel with the one-ring show.
Circus Smirkus is a nonprofit arts and education organization whose mission is to promote the skills, culture and traditions of the traveling circus.
