Who doesn’t love going on vacation? The beautiful, sandy beaches and gorgeous weather are perks people look forward to every year, but the travel can leave you feeling fed up by the time you arrive at your destination. Picture this: You are on a jet plane, on your way to an exotic island, your legs are stretched out, and there’s a cocktail in your hand and delicious food at your fingertips. Sound too good to be true? Well, it’s not.

Magellan Jets takes private jet travel to another level. Worcester native Joshua Hebert founded this phenomenal company in September, 2008. Hebert had ample experience in financial relations and a passion for aviation, making him the perfect entrepreneur for a company like Magellan Jets. Cousin Anthony Tivnan, also a Worcester native, joined Hebert in 2008 as president of the company. Tivnan’s experience in business aviation made him a great asset to Magellan Jets.

With all that knowledge and experience under their belts, these two gentlemen proceeded to create a private jet company with world-class service. Just a few of the benefits you can expect to reap while traveling with Magellan are an in-flight concierge and catering. The company also has an on-call flight team 365 days a year, and with access to thousands of aircrafts, offer the client complete flexibility.

Oddly enough, Magellan Jets doesn’t actually own any jets. Since planes spend more time on the ground than in the air, Magellan contracts with jet owners who aren’t using their planes.

The company is very strict when it comes to safety, and Hebert and Tivnan make sure they hire only the best team to work with their clients. “We require the flight crews to have a minimum of 3,000 total [flight hours] and 300 in the type of aircraft they are flying that day,” Tivnan said. The FAA requires 1,500 flight hours.

Magellan Jets also believes in giving back to the community.  Hebert and Tivnan run the Experience to Excel initiative, which donates a private jet experience and vacation to a deserving Boston family. It gives a company like Magellan Jets the opportunity to interact with the local community and gives a family an experience it will remember for a lifetime.

As you can imagine, this is an amazing place to work. But Tivnan said he still needs a vacation once in a while, and he has his favorite places to travel: “The islands (St. Maarten, Bahamas, Puerto Rico, St. Barth’s etc.) are my favorite places to travel. Nothing like flying into these destinations. Love the scenery. Once you’re there, it’s such a nice escape from the day to day hustle and bustle.”

Tivnan also has his favorites when it comes to jets: “Gulfstream 450, hands down ~ enough range to bring 13 passengers to Europe or Hawaii. Great amenities (wifi; Direct TV; espresso machines; flight attendant), great luggage capacity … and the all-glass cockpit is pretty cool.”

Tivnan has high expectations for his company and his employees: “In the next five years, I would like to see Magellan grow to its full potential and also see the careers of our existing staff really grow. I love watching employees become leaders.”
