Caveman Announce New Album And 30 Date North American Spring Tour
 
A lot has gone down in the year and a half since the men of Caveman released their critically acclaimed debut album CoCo Beware, much of it out on the road. They played through a blackout in Dallas as a tornado tore the power lines down, hunted for crop circles in Middle America, and saw first-hand the place where aliens landed in New Mexico. They visited the castles of seaside France and got lost in London more than once.
 
When a group goes through all that together, they’re bound to grow as a unit. What’s more, while all of this was going on, each member of the band happened to be undergoing significant changes in his own personal life. All of this change and these experiences combined to produce the band’s follow-up to their debut album, slated for release this spring on Fat Possum Records (an independent label home to an illustrious, eclectic roster including The Black Keys, Band of Horses, Wavves, Yuck, Spiritualized, The Walkmen, Smith Westerns, Lissie, and others).
 
Caveman is made up of five proud New York natives: lead singer/songwriter Matt Iwanusa, who also adds percussion and drums to the band on record and live on stage, guitarist Jimmy “Cobra” Carbonetti, who designs his hand-made Carbonetti Instruments from scratch, drummer and native Manhattanite Stefan Marolachakis, bassist Jeff Berrall, and Sam Hopkins on synths.

NYC’s Lucius has had a busy year, touring with the likes of JD McPherson, Milo Greene, Pearl and the Beard, and more. With intertwining vocals from frontwomen Holly Laessig and Jess Wolfe and lush, danceable instrumentation created by band mates Danny Molad, Peter Lalish and Andrew Burri, the band puts on an explosive live performance.

Lucius released their debut self-titled EP earlier this year to praise from KEXP’s “Music That Matters” podcast & Seventeen Magazine to NPR. Produced by Tony Berg (Beck, Aimee Mann), Steve Wall (Meshell Ndegeocello), and band member Dan Molad (Elizabeth & The Catapult, Here We Go Magic), the EP is a mix of emotionally-charged and upbeat 60s-inspired tracks. Fans and those of you who are hungry for more Lucius after hearing them for the first time on the video will get another chance to catch them live on their mini East-coast tour, which takes them to Great Scott in Boston on February 14…and stay tuned for more from Lucius coming soon!

Total Warr’s Loisy EP Out January 29th

French duo Total Warr formed when longtime friends Kiki and Guigui joined forces with the goal of creating fun, energetic pop songs. Since then, they’ve made their mark with a handful of singles and EPs that have earned praise from StereogumFADERRCRD LBL, and more. Now, Total Warr is back with a new three-track EP that includes guest vocals from The Death Set and an electrically-charged Pixies cover. Packed with irresistible hooks and sing-along choruses, the Loisy EP will be released digitally on January 29th.
 
Total Warr’s cover of the Pixies’ “Where Is My Mind” turns the hit into a buzzing, beat-driven jam complete with a sample from “Empire State of Mind.” The video, which premiered with PAPER Magazine, builds from a simple live performance of the classic into an all-out house party full of entertaining characters. “Bambastard,” which features guest vocals from The Death Set’s Johnny Siera, opens the EP with a rich blend of electric guitar, synths, and layer upon layer of harmonies, all set to an infectious beat. “Always Me” slows things down with a swirling foundation of vocals and instrumentation that builds to an explosive climax.

Superhuman Happiness Announce Tour Dates and Share Vignette from How to Survive a Plague

Since its recent release, the feature-length documentary film How To Survive a Plague, accompanied by its compelling original motion picture score performed by Superhuman Happiness (with special guests Kronos Quartet), has been moving audiences nationwide. The documentary goes behind the scenes of the groundbreaking work of HIV/AIDS coalitions ACT UP and TAG (Treatment Action Group) in the 1980s. The music accompanying the posted vignette, which just premiered on Huffington Post’s Gay Voices, is described by composer/musician Stuart Bogie of Superhuman Happiness as an “…urgent piece that was written to reflect the dire circumstances, the fragility of life, and the tenderness of the home treatment.” Proceeds from the soundtrack, which was released December 4, will benefit the Student Global AIDS Campaign.

In addition to the score, Superhuman Happiness will release their first full-length album, Hands, on March 5 on The Royal Potato Family. The relentlessly creative band whose sound has been dubbed “physical cinematic dance rock” has crafted an LP that runs the gamut from celebratory syncopated handclaps (“Our Favorite Part”) to the coronation grandeur of church bells (“Second Heart”), from art-pop dance beats (“See Me on My Way”) to math rock angularity (“Half Step Grind”).  The lyrics to Superhuman Happiness songs come at you in a flurry of pop sensibility, but with lean, metaphysical elements peppered amid the vastness of cinematic layers of instrumentation. Guitarists Luke O’Malley and Ryan Ferreira trade highlife picking and revving power chords as Nikhil Yerawadekar’s ropey bass lines weave and bob through the pulsing beats issued from Miles Arntzen’s drum kit. Waves of sound issue from Jared Samuel’s array of analog keyboards and lush accents from Eric Biondo’s playful harmonies. Stuart Bogie’s horns ~ abetted by long-time collaborator Colin Stetson ~ round out Hands’ multi-dimensional sound.

Superhuman Happiness became known in Brooklyn for ecstatic dance parties at the famed club Zebulon where they’d often improvise extended versions of their songs. The band’s reputation further grew upon touring nationally with artists like Rubblebucket, Marco Benevento, and Red Baraat. Prior to their forthcoming full-length debut, Superhuman Happiness released an EP and a series of 7-inch singles while collaborating with Cults on the Red, Hot & Rio 2 compilation. Its members are all key NYC players with a collective resume that stretches across a dizzying array of talent, including Antibalas, Phenomenal Handclap Band, TV on The Radio, Iron & Wine, tUnE-yArDs, and Martha Wainwright among many others. It’s together, however, where their individual voices coalesce into one shared vision. As Hands so vividly expresses, this is music striving for Superhuman Happiness.
