Musicians for a Cause and the Petfinder Foundation have joined forces to create the first Gold Record focused on saving animals. They’ve partnered to help thousands of animal welfare organizations through a national campaign called Save Our Shelters, a web-based campaign that offers pet-inspired songs to inspire financial support.
Songs were compiled through an international contest that went out to over 500,000 artists, and it also includes contributions from people such as singer/songwriter/actress Nellie McKay, and John Fulton, host of Animal Planet’s “Must Love Cats.” One of the campaign’s songs, “Choose Me,” a touching ballad about pet adoption written by Nashville hit songwriter Tim Johnson, was chosen for the Gold Record campaign.
The campaign is focused on uniting organizations across the country to create the first Gold Record in support of animal welfare, which will help the Save Our Shelters participants reach the overall financial goal of raising $1.25M. If they come together to meet the financial challenge one of them will be awarded an additional $25,000 Challenge Grant. Organizations that join the Save Our Shelters campaign can offer pet-inspired songs to their supporters and keep 100% of the profit they generate.
“This campaign combines music and technology in a very unique way and enables local organizations to leverage a national effort,” said Dave Bastien, founder of Musicians for a Cause. Bastien also says, “It gives the artists involved a meaningful outlet and visibility for their work too. It’s a winning proposition for all involved.”
Noah Horton, of the Petfinder Foundation, says, “This is a unique opportunity for shelters to fundraise for themselves by selling music to their donors. Free fundraising tools like this are a great way to help them continue the good work they do.”
The Save Our Shelters campaign is under way and more details can be found on the campaign website at www.SaveOurShelters.org.
