Timbre: How Fans Discover New Local Music
By Rick Garner
Intrepid Pursuits has just introduced Timbre, a new music discovery app for the iPhone designed to introduce users to new artists and bands. Timbre’s minimalist concert calendar displays nearby shows and connects listeners to the artists’ music via iTunes. This allows music lovers to listen, become fans, and buy tickets on-the-spot.
“Timbre was created to lead people to exciting new music and bands, and encourage them to attend live shows,” said Mark Kasdorf, Intrepid Pursuits’ founder and CEO. “Timbre helps musicians connect with a new fan base, and sell more tickets and merchandise.”
“Timbre makes it easy to find the best live music in each city,” added Ben Ripani of Ben Ripani Music Co. “Other social media outlets allow me to promote events to our current fans, but Timbre facilitates the growth of new fans in the live setting.”
Timbre allows users to find live concerts near them. When users select a concert, they are presented with the band’s most popular song and a concert poster page with concert details. A user can then listen to more songs by the artist or swipe to discover new bands.

Timbre was “born” at the 2012 Boston Innovation Challenge Hack-a-thon, Connecting Disconnected Communities. The theme inspired Intrepid’s CTO, Matt Bridges, himself a former independent musician, to create a tool to connect musical artists and their community. The initial version of Timbre was awarded the event’s top honors. To learn more about how Timbre is connecting bands to fans, visit Timbre video.
Timbre is available free of charge in the Apple App Store. Let music find you at Timbre.
