Workers of all kinds ~ from mechanics and mothers to police officers and plumbers ~ can receive a free acupuncture treatment on International Workers’ Day, Tuesday, May 1, at the newly-renamed Down to Earth Acupuncture in Worcester.
“This is our third May Day offering,” said practitioner-owner Emily Konstan, “and we intend to keep free treatments for International Workers’ Day as an annual event.”
Emily has been practicing acupuncture in Central MA for five years as River Valley Acupuncture. So we were curious, why the name change to Down to Earth Acupuncture?
“I began using River Valley when I was treating in a private-room setting,” Emily explained. “As we transitioned to practicing community acupuncture, we began to feel the need for a name that better reflected the community acupuncture philosophy.”
Community acupuncture is a no-fuss, affordable approach to community health. Although the treatment rooms are quiet and relaxing, the group setting makes the space feel less clinical and more like someone’s living room or community center.
Community acupuncture means practitioners and their business model are committed to the growth and health of the community, actively seeking out ways to be part of the community and to support local programs.
“Everyone benefits when more people have access to affordable acupuncture. Neighborhoods become physically healthier and more able to manage stress. Practitioners and patients work together to make the acupuncture experience better for the community,” said Emily.
Down to Earth Acupuncture displays art from local artists in the office on a rotating basis, donates treatments to local churches and non-profits for fundraisers, and does fundraising events for non-profits including Abby’s House, a woman’s shelter and affordable housing project.
Down to Earth Acupuncture is located at 67 James St., Suite 207. Those wanting a free acupuncture treatment between the hours of 2:30 and 6:30 on May Day are strongly encouraged to make an appointment by calling (508-890-8899); walk-ins will be taken on a space-available basis.
