Plus The Chariot, Lions Lions, Oceano, Mychildren, Mybride, Within The Ruins, and more

On Saturday, November 12th, thousands of hardcore fans poured into The Palladium for one of the most amazing shows of the year! With tickets at only $10, and a line-up of over 20 hardcore bands, what more could you possibly ask for?

The lineup for the show was nothing short of spectacular, featuring amazing bands including The Chariot, Lions Lions, Oceano, Mychildren, Mybride, and Within The Ruins. From 3pm – midnight there was nonstop music coming from both upstairs and downstairs of The Palladium.

Every band that took the stage had energy like I had never seen before. The number of guitar spins and other tricks were countless. And the crowd? For a show that lasted eight hours, the audience acted as though each band were the first of the night. The mosh pits were intense ~ hardcore dancing, crowd surfing, and the ever-popular wall of death.

The most unique performance of the night goes to The Chariot, a mathcore / performance art band out of Georgia. Their music is awesome to begin with, but seeing them live is a whole other experience. If you’ve ever  been to The Palladium ~ which I’m sure you have ~ you know there is a small balcony area on both the left and the right side of the stage. Picture a band playing when all of the sudden, two members of the band go missing. Next thing you know, they’re rushing through the crowds, instruments in hand, making their way to the balconies. What’s better is that they make it to their destination and proceed to continue the song while standing on the handrails!

It gets better ~ these guys eventually found their way back to the stage, only to then walk and play in and on the crowd! Finally, just when you think these guys can’t do anything else that will surprise you, mid song, their vocalist ~ Josh Scogin ~ proceeds to climb onto the drum kit and then dismantle it mid song, leaving only bits and pieces from him to play on. Other members from other bands proceed to bring out bits and pieces of their drum kits and help finish the song on the sidelines of the stage. I’m telling you ~ it’s incredibly hard to describe how awesome their live performance is. Trust me, if you like their music, you’ll love them live.

The final act of the night was Vanna, a hardcore band from Boston and a Worcester favorite. This wasn’t just any show for Vanna or their fans; this was the live piece for their upcoming DVD entitled Bury Your Bones. That’s right, Vanna picked Worcester’s own Palladium as the backdrop to their DVD. It was obviously because Worcester knows what’s up when it comes to hardcore, right?

Davey Muise and the rest of Vanna never skipped a beat. Their hour and a half long set featured both fan as well as some personal favorites. The energy that Vanna gave to their audience was delivered right back at them ~ screaming fans, outrageous mosh pits, and the front row singing every song, word for word, back at them. Vanna ended with “I am the Wind, You are the Feather,” and although the crowd had been giving it their all for eight hours, they finished just as strongly as Vanna did.

Sure, I’ve been to plenty of day long events ~ Warped Tour, Locobazooka ~ but I can honestly say that I have never seen such continuous passion and energy for so many hours and for so many bands. It’s just another reason I love the Massachusetts hardcore scene. You guys rock!

Be sure to check out The Chariot, Vanna, as well as the other awesome acts that played, too!
