THIS JUST IN! BELOVED METAL GUITAR TECH & TOUR MANAGER NEEDS HELP!
Dane Wolf, known to many throughout the metal community as a skilled guitar tech, tour manager, and overall kind & hardworking human being, was badly beaten in Denver, Colorado last week while on the Death Angel/Testament/Anthrax tour. As a result, he had to drop off the tour and was recently released from the hospital in Denver.
Dane’s mother, Jenna Wolf, issued the following statement on Dane Wolf’s Give Forward fundraising page:
“Please help in whatever way you can by assisting with his medical bills and upcoming travel expenses to and from Colorado when things go to court. There will be additional medical costs in the future as well, as he continues to recover and requires follow-up care. The goal has now been raised due to the amazing response of Dane’s friends and family. Thank you so much for your continued support, and for sharing the link, and his story!”
The goal is to raise $7,500.00 to pay Dane’s medical & travel expenses. Thus far, $3,760 (50%) has been raised. YOU can help a metalhead who worked a metal tour you attended by visiting GiveForward.com/DANEWOLF and donate what you can. Every dollar helps!
Monday’s online update from Dane Wolf:
“The doctor’s appt. went well today, and I have been deemed travel ready and will be finishing my recovery with my Mother who has been worried sick, and kitty cat in Saint Louis! I leave on my first flight in a few hours.
My brain IS there, and looks alright 🙂 stitches come out in another week, chicks dig scars, right? I am trying a different pain medication to see if it can reduce side effects, as I am still battling major headaches as my fractures heal and the swelling subsides. I will be meeting with a specialist in Saint Louis to determine if I will require surgery to repair my orbital socket, fingers crossed.
None of these options would have been available without your help, I am so grateful to spend the rest of my recovery with Mom, because we all know that no one takes care of you like mom does.
The many positive actions this week so far outweigh the negative in my mind, that I can’t help but look forward to getting healed and paying it back to others. I will be back in The Bay with all you crazy fuckers when I’m fully Dane again, and back out on the road with my brothers and sisters when duty calls. Thanks to my Uncle Brad, cousin Brandon, doctors, nurses, police, and friends in Denver for watching over me 🙂 I will welcome seeing my Saint Louis friends as soon as my body tells me I’m ready to do so, as I will be strictly following doctor’s orders to give it the full opportunity to rest and recover as I have been.
Thank you all, so much, once again.
Much Love
Dane”

THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN ANNOUNCE FALL TOUR WITH MASTODON
Over the past two years, there has been only one band that has wowed crowds at Bonnaroo, Coachella and Warped Tour. Add to that a three month tour this past summer with Deftones, festivals around the world, and even sharing the stage with Nine Inch Nails…and you have The Dillinger Escape Plan.
Now, one of the most appreciated (or sometimes under-appreciated) bands in rock will be finishing off 2011 with Mastodon and Red Fang.
The Dillinger Escape Plan also recently launched their new website at Www.Dillingerescapeplan.Org. The site is the new dashboard for all current and upcoming activity and shows, collecting media shared on social platforms (flickr, youtube, vimeo), media feeds, as well as by blog and media entries from the band itself. They made the launch even more special with the free download of an unreleased remix of “Black Bubblegum” by Sergio Vega (Deftones).
Guitarist Ben Weinman just added a new blog talking everything from the Puciato/Cavalera project to his own musical adventure with Brent Hines (Mastodon) and Eric Avery (Jane’s Addiction).
All of this action has been in support of their 2010 release, Option Paralysis (Season Of Mist/Party Smasher Inc). The album showcases their signature organized chaos in tracks like “Farewell, Mona Lisa.” Their rock sensibilities in “Gold Teeth On A Bum,” and their melodic tendencies in “Parasitic Twins.” Stay tuned for more news on the band including tours, recordings and more.
The Dillinger Escape Plan with Mastodon & Red Fang hit the House of Blues in Boston on Nov. 21.

In regards to this upcoming trek, Winds Of Plague’s Johnny Plague (vocals) comments: “We are very excited that our first US headlining tour in support of our new record ‘Against The World’ will carry the Thrash & Burn brand. In my opinion, this year’s lineup is one of the heaviest lineups I’ve seen in a while. Each band will deliver their unique brand of crushing metal, and it will prove to be one hell of an evening for fans of heavy music. Our set will consist of an even balance of songs between our three records. We are pulling out all the stops for this tour–if you have seen us before, you’ve never seen us like how we will be on this tour.”
Winds Of Plague with Chelsea Grin, As Blood Runs Black, For The Fallen Dreams, Upon A Burning Body, In The Midst Of Lions, Like Moths To Flames, and Volumes hits The Palladium in Worcester on 11/29.

RYAN ADAMS CONFIRMS DECEMBER TOUR DATES
With his newly released Ashes & Fire, Adams is already generating arguably the best critical notices of his career to date:
Sparse, stately roots-rock and lyrics chiseled down to eternals… Mr. Adams sounds fragile but determined, in a Glyn Johns production that gives each discrete instrument a natural glow” ~ The New York Times
“Sad, simple, slight–and perfect” ~ Rolling Stone
“11 meticulously crafted songs” ~ Time
Preceded by stunning single “Lucky Now,” Ashes & Fire is eleven succinct and beautiful samples of Adams at his songwriting, performing and singing best. The record was produced by Glyn Johns, renowned for his work with the likes of The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Clash and The Rolling Stones, and whose son Ethan produced previous Adams’ landmarks including Heartbreaker and Gold. The record also features guest turns from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench and Norah Jones, who contributes piano and backing vocals to several tracks.
Ryan comes to the Orpheum Theatre in Boston on 12/8.

R.E.M. CAPS ITS 31-YEAR RECORDING CAREER WITH ITS FIRST-EVER DEFINITIVE GREATEST HITS ALBUM
The 40-Song Retrospective ~ R.E.M., Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage, 1982 – 2011 ~ includes tracks from both the IRS and Warner Years plus three brand-new songs.
After R.E.M. ignited the blogosphere on September 21st with the news that they had decided to “call it a day as a band” via a statement on their website, the beloved band announced that they will release their final album, R.E.M., Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage, 1982 – 2011, on Warner Bros. Records on November 15th, 2011. The album is a 40-song career-spanning retrospective that collects, for the first time ever, songs from R.E.M.’s entire back catalog, including the pioneering American band’s years on both the IRS label (1982 to 1987) and Warner Bros. Records (1988 to 2011). The album is currently available for pre-order on Amazon here. A brand-new song, “We All Go Back to Where We Belong,” headed to radio on October 18th.
R.E.M. formed in 1980 when singer Michael Stipe met guitarist Peter Buck in an Athens, GA, record store where Buck worked. After recruiting bassist Mike Mills and drummer Bill Berry, R.E.M. released its first single, “Radio Free Europe,” in 1981, followed by 1982’s Chronic Town EP, capturing the imagination of a new generation of music lovers and bringing “guitar pop back into the underground lexicon,” as All-Music put it. Widely credited with inventing the college-rock genre, R.E.M. became the most influential American alternative rock band in history ~ inspiring such artists as Sonic Youth, Pavement, Nirvana, and Radiohead ~ for achieving multi-platinum mainstream success while maintaining their distinct identity.
“Working through our music and memories from over three decades was a hell of a journey,” says Mike Mills of choosing the songs that appear on R.E.M., Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage, 1982 – 2011. “We realized that these songs seemed to draw a natural line under the last 31 years of our working together.”
In addition to liner notes written by band members Berry, Buck, Mills, and Stipe, the album also features three new songs that R.E.M. finished after they completed their last album, Collapse Into Now: “A Month of Saturdays,” “We All Go Back To Where We Belong,” and “Hallelujah,” which were recorded over the summer in Athens with Accelerate and Collapse Into Now producer, the estimable Jacknife Lee. The band came roaring back with those two albums in the last two years, achieving some of the best reviews of their career and enabling them to go out at the top of their game.
The track-listing for R.E.M., Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage, 1982 – 2011 is as follows:

COREY TAYLOR TO EMBARK ON SOLO TOUR | SHOWS WILL INCLUDE ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCES, BOOK READINGS, Q&As + MORE
Corey Taylor, frontman for genre-defining rock bands Slipknot and Stone Sour, is embarking on a solo tour this fall.
The idea for the tour sprang from an intimate set of UK gigs that Taylor recently played to launch his bestselling book Seven Deadly Sins, as well as his speaking engagement at Oxford University this summer. Taylor will perform originals and some choice covers acoustically; will read selections from the book; and take questions from the audience. Billed as “An Evening With Corey Taylor,” these shows will be a rare opportunity for many fans to interact with Taylor in this intimate a setting, and vice versa.
“I had so much fun doing this type of show in England that I just HAD to bring it to the States,” said Taylor. “It’s gonna be one-part Henry Rollins, one-part Johnny Cash and probably a little heavy on the Monty Python. It’s everything I love to do: singing, comedy and talkin’ smack. Hopefully, the audience enjoys it as much as I do.”
Armed with an acoustic guitar, a copy of his book, a microphone and his unflinching worldview and lacerating wit, Corey Taylor is coming to your town to spread the gospel as only he can and it will be a night fans won’t soon forget. If you are looking to be fully entertained by one of the most gifted voices of the hard rock scene, this is a night you won’t dare miss.
Taylor’s book, Seven Deadly Sins: Settling the Argument Between Born Bad and Damaged Good, is an outrageous manifesto on the nature of sin, offered in Taylor’s unique and informed voice. The tome is now available in audio form, read by Taylor himself, and it features an action-packed ending not included in the print version. Seven Deadly Sins spent four weeks on the New York Times Best Seller list, and five weeks on the Times of London Best Seller list.
Corey Taylor solo comes to the Middle East in Boston on 12/4.

JOHN WAITE COMES TO THE BULL RUN
As His New Single “If You Ever Get Lonely” arrives at radio, rock legend John Waite is hitting the road for a fall tour that stops in Shirley on Sunday, November 13 at Bull Run Restaurant in Shirley and in Salisbury on Friday, November 18 at Blue Ocean Music Hall.
An urgent mid-tempo pop rock song that is classic Waite, “If You Ever Get Lonely” is the latest release from the album Rough & Tumble ~ released earlier this year on Model Music Group/Fontana-which also features the album’s first single, the title track, which reached #1 on Classic Rock charts. Rough & Tumble features an eclectic mix of rock, pop and blues, including several collaborations with Matchbox 20’s Kyle Cook. The Los Angeles-based British singer and songwriter worked on “If You Ever Get Lonely” as part of a Nashville writing session in early 2010 with Cook. WAITE says, “It’s about getting a phone call at night…perhaps the love of your life that you sort of lost track of dials you by mistake or maybe she’s out at a party and after a bottle of wine thinks she’ll just say hello.” He adds: “It’s one of those things where you pick up the phone and you stop breathing. It’s about distance. It’s about lives going on after they’ve been damaged.”
WAITE’s live performances will include songs from Rough & Tumble along with classic hits from his solo career and the two bands he fronted, The Babys and Bad English. The Grammy-nominated artist continues to draw praise from the media about his live shows: “throughout his long solo career, Waite’s clear, soaring vocals have always been his defining characteristic. His flawless ability to raise a whisper to a scream without losing any clarity or depth has always been what’s made him one of the more distinctive and enduring vocalists in the rock genre,” (Creative Loafing, June 2011) and “Waite’s voice was clearly in fine form and the crowd was on their feet rocking out from note one,” (Examiner.com, AZ, August 2011).

CLOSE YOUR EYES’ EMPTY HANDS AND HEAVY HEARTS
Using their faith as a driving force, Close Your Eyes has silenced all stereotypes and emerged as a leader in delivering their powerful and inspiring message through music. The band’s infectious, explosive energy and uncompromising musical capabilities transcends the aggressive posturing that so often limits the genre. Luckily, a scene so overpopulated with lackluster talent has struck gold with this special melodic-hardcore outfit.
Abilene, Texas-based Close Your Eyes recently opened the ears and hearts of fans across the world with 2010’s promising Victory debut, We Will Overcome. With their hardcore, heavy rock sound and inspirational lyrics, it was no surprise that the band received such an intense initial response. The album has since sold over 15,000 copies in the U.S. to date, and the music video for the hit track “Song For The Broken” has been viewed by over 1.2 million devoted listeners. It’s hard to imagine that a band who has garnered such notoriety began with two of the original members simply commenting on each other’s t-shirts.
Vocalist Shane Raymond and guitarist Brett Callaway met at Hardin-Simmons University, unaware that their casual encounter would morph into the emergence of one of the most powerful, uplifting groups around. Sonny Vega (bass) and newest addition Tim Friesen (drums) complete this talented line-up.
Delving into the subject of Christianity as a major influence for their existence, Close Your Eyes makes it a point not to preach, like many others so often do. “We don’t hide who we are, but a big reason we don’t emphasize the fact that we’re a Christian band is because we don’t want our faith to be our primary marketing point,” states Raymond.
This fall, a brand new album, Empty Hands and Heavy Hearts, channels the impressive momentum
that Close Your Eyes has already picked up. The album couples powerful melodies with inventive hardcore, furthering Close Your Eyes’ signature dynamic with their catchiest anthems, strongest vocals, and most monstrous guitar riffs to date.
“Musically and lyrically, we poured our hearts into this one. The short time span that we had to record really brought the band closer together and allowed everyone to openly express themselves more than ever before,” states Raymond.
Bringing their vibrant, energizing performances across the country in 2011, Close Your Eyes has certainly marched their way to the forefront of the hardcore elite. Attracting audiences to major festivals such as Cornerstone and Sonshine, touring with A Day To Remember and Underoath and performing on the Scream The Prayer Tour, the band will continue to pave their memorable road with a headlining tour this fall to support the new album with labelmates Counterparts.
Make no mistake: Close Your Eyes’ massive sound encompasses their signature one-two punch of aggressive, melodic-infused elements. Empty Hands and Heavy Hearts will certainly be the catalyst to drive this passionate brand of hardcore into the hearts and minds of audiences everywhere.

RECKLESS KELLY
Austin-based band Reckless Kelly ~ known for straddling rock and country with strong songs and performances-just released their ninth album Good Luck & True Love and are out on the road in support stopping in Boston on Monday, November 14 at Royale Nightclub.
Released on September 13 via their own No Big Deal Records label, Good Luck & True Love marks the band’s first studio album of all new material since 2008’s Bulletproof and is the follow-up to their 2010 release Somewhere in Time, a tribute to one of their songwriter heroes, Pinto Bennett. Both of those albums hit the top 5 on the Billboard “Heatseekers” chart and top 20 on the Americana charts. Somewhere in Time was voted the #10 best album of the year by the Americana Music Association in 2010 and Bulletproof earned the group a #1 Americana and #1 Texas Charts song spot with “Ragged As the Road” as well as an Americana Music Association nomination for “Duo or Group of the Year” (2009).
After having released music via Sugar Hill and Yep Roc Records, Reckless Kelly ~ Willy Braun (lead vocals/rhythm guitar/Wurlitzer piano), Cody Braun (fiddle/mandolin/harmonica/bouzouki/harmony vocals), David Abeyta (lead guitar/piano), Jay Nazz (drums/percussion) and Chris Schelske (bass guitar) ~ are now releasing the self-produced Good Luck & True Love on their own, and are now self-managed. The new album is quintessential Reckless Kelly with a blend of the gritty and the sublime. There are road songs (“Weatherbeaten Soul,” “Hit The Ground Running”), tunes about music (“New Moon Over Nashville,” “I Stayed Up All Night Again”) and others about hard times (“Save Me From Myself”) and good old-fashioned heartbreak (“Give It A Try,” “Guarded Heart,” “She Likes Money, He Likes Love” and “I Never Liked St. Valentine”).
Reckless Kelly formed in Bend, OR in 1996 but quickly established themselves as a strong live act in and around Austin, TX and have been praised by Country Weekly for “injecting its hooky songs with rock ‘n’ roll propulsion without sacrificing melody or meaning” (2009 review of Bulletproof). Michael Corcoran of the Austin American Statesman called them “a rock band that writes country songs” and said “Bulletproof is an aggressive album with an anti-war song that outprotests James mcmurtry. Even in the most stagnant of subgenres (alt-country), the Kellies strive to remain fresh…(6/11/08)”

“Bravo to She Wants Revenge for delivering an impassioned and danceable song cycle about the timeless subject matter of lust and doomed love.” – USA Today
“She Wants Revenge marries haunting poetry and modern sonic flair with the sound of 80’s dance and New Romantic music to create new rock.” – Los Angeles Daily News
“Valleyheart sees them submerging themselves in blissful nostalgia. Many tracks have a fresh, cinematic, uplifting quality we haven’t seen before. She Wants Revenge has invented self-directed videos combined with an expanded sonic palette.” – LAWeekly.com
“She Wants Revenge’s sound continues to evolve, using less synthesizer and relying more on raw vocals and stunning instrumentals.” – LA Record
“SWR are in fine sonic fettle on newbie Valleyheart. Their cultured, strutting rock-tronica is made all the more elegant by Justin Warfield’s deadpan croon, but has its edges softened with whimsical, sonic subplots.” – LA Weekly
“The musicianship on this album is excellent. Warfield’s baritone vocals are moving and powerful. On ‘Take the World,’ She Wants Revenge gets sensual very quickly with its crystal-clear guitar work, synthesizer beats, and heavy basslines. The album is worth multiple listens.” – Examiner.com (Los Angeles)
“With new rich sounds of the indie rock movement, SWR cranks out songs that keep people moving and makes their personal lives a part of the experience.” – CBS News

ROADRUNNER TO RELEASE TYPE O NEGATIVE’S LABEL CATALOGAS VINYL BOX SET TO BE SOLD EXCLUSIVELY AT INDEPENDENT RETAIL OUTLETS ON BLACK FRIDAY
What better way to celebrate Black Friday, the biggest shopping day of the calendar year, with the black-humored, doom ‘n’ gloom goth of Type O Negative? Fans can inject a little fun into the drudgery that is holiday shopping, courtesy of Type O!
Roadrunner Records will release a special vinyl box set exclusively via independent retailers on Black Friday, which lands on November 25th this year.
As the first band to achieve platinum status on the Roadrunner Records roster, Type O Negative didn’t rewrite the rules. They simply tore the rule book up, burned what was left of it and did whatever the hell they wanted with the smoldering ash. The result was nothing short of brilliant, as they combined dirge-like doom with head down, gothy grooves, all the while retaining the sort of signature melody that made their songs utterly memorable, infesting your brain like a virus.
Of the box set, Type O’s Johnny Kelly said, “This looks great but we’re disappointed that Roadrunner couldn’t get it together to do the scratch ‘n’ sniff cover we wanted for The Origin of the Feces.”
The vinyl box includes all Roadrunner released Type O Negative material contained within one collector’s box. Each album will be issued on double green vinyl, with the album art recreated, including the controversial, rarely seen original cover of The Origin of the Feces. Type O fans know all about that cover and the anatomy which it features.
Each album will also have new, branded liner notes documenting the genesis and completion of each album.
An exclusive sticker sheet with six mini bumper stickers will also be included in this “must own” set for Type O Negative diehards. It’s an instant collector’s item.
This set includes the following releases:
Slow, Deep and Hard
The Origin of the Feces
Bloody Kisses
October Rust
World Coming Down
Life Is Killing Me

…AND SOME MORE COOL STUFF
Musicians Making More than Micropayments
Lately, with the introduction of streaming music sites like Spotify, Napster, and Lastfm, it is common for hundreds of payments of $0.005 to appear in artists’ bank accounts. Although they are getting their music heard, 100 plays won’t even earn a dollar. As young or emerging artists are struggling to get enough plays on streaming sites to supplement the decline of album purchases, Ben Levin, one of Boston’s up and coming recording artists, is giving fans new reasons to buy albums.
Through innovative packaging ideas, the use of multimedia, and interweaving storylines, Ben’s bands Bent Knee and Ben Levin Group focus on offering work that reminds people why it feels good to actually own music. Bent Knee’s debut album’s packaging is a brown envelope stuffed with handwritten lyric sheets and personal messages and sealed with red wax. The album feels homemade and each copy is one of a kind. Meanwhile, Ben Levin Group is releasing a fully illustrated orchestral score of their latest album Pulse of a Nation with images of the story behind the album’s music. He will be introducing the “graphic score” with the album at comic book conventions in the coming year. “The way a person receives an album makes a big impression,” Ben explains. “It’s like a good handshake or eye contact when you meet someone for the first time.”
To keep up to date with Ben Levin and his music, go to www.BenLevinMusic.com.
