For those of you who can’t get enough of Mayday Parade, I’d like to introduce you to Go Radio!

Like Mayday Parade, Go Radio is also from Tallahassee, Florida, and contains Mayday Parade’s former vocalist Jason Lancaster. Add in Matt “Burns” Poulos (bass), Alex Reed (guitar), and Steven Kopacz (drums) and you get a fresh sound that’s sure to end up on repeat!  entgoradio-copy

Now, as you all know, The Vans Warped Tour is a huge mix of bands who come from all parts of the country and bring with them a huge variety of genres. For those of us in the audience, the best part is getting the opportunity to experience all these different genres in one day ~ but when I was lucky enough to sit down with GR’s Alex in person, I asked him what it’s like for the musicians. “Warped Tour is like a real job ~ you get up, grab your coffee around 8am and start your day. It’s nice, though. You get on a regular schedule ~ it’s normal and refreshing. It’s also fun to see bands you’ve never listened to or heard of and still be able to have an appreciation for what they’re doing,” he shared.

“I’ve always been around music, my parents were both music teachers,” Reed said proudly. “I started learning piano when I was three, and I picked up guitar in high school.” Surprisingly enough, Reed doesn’t own an Ipod or even a Zune! That’s right ~ he keeps the majority of his music on CDs or on his laptop with the occasional tracks on his smart phone.

Speaking of music, what bands rock Reed’s world? Jimmy Eat World, The Foo Fighters, and HelloGoodbye are a few of his faves, and his first concert was actually Boxcar Racer with H2O, The Used and Taking Back Sunday. Funny story ~ the concert was before Taking Back Sunday had become super popular (Tell All Your Friends had just been released) and they were actually boo’d off the stage! Now look at them!

As for his own band, how does Reed feel about the process of recording their own albums? “Making [“Lucky Street”] was great, [the producers] let us make mistakes, and then we’d later go back and fix them.” What about his favorite track to play live? Easy pick for Reed ~ “Goodnight Moon.” “I love the fan interaction and the way the song starts off slow, and builds.”

Where would Reed like to see himself in five years? “The music industry is unpredictable,” he states, “so it’s hard to plan ahead for sure. I’d like to be on the road with the people that I love, doing what I love, but on a much bigger level.”
