Heading Back into the Studio and Hitting the Road this Summer
By Hillary Stone
Owl City’s Adam Young has retreated to the studio to start work on the follow up to his platinum selling debut album, Ocean Eyes (Universal Republic). After spending a good part of the past year on the road in support of Ocean Eyes, this admittedly shy and introverted artist is thrilled to be home and working on his next album. However, the break will be a short one as the band is already scheduled to hit the road again in early August.
Owl City will be heading out as main support for Maroon 5 on a string of East Coast dates starting on August 5th and ending on the 15th when the tour makes a stop at New Jersey’s PNC Bank Arts Center. Directly following these dates, Owl City will head west to join up with John Mayer on August 18th at the Cricket Pavilion in Phoenix, AZ. Again as main support, Owl City will tour the West Coast, South and Southeast with Mayer including stops at the Shoreline Amphitheater in San Francisco on August 20th and the legendary Hollywood Bowl in LA on August 22nd before ending the run on September 11th at the Cruzan Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, FL. Then in November, the band will be heading overseas for a six week international headlining tour of Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the UK.
The past year has been a whirlwind for Owl City, who has gone from being an unknown artist from Owatonna, MN to an international phenomenon. The debut Ocean Eyes was released in July 2009 and went platinum on April 1st, 2010. The first single, “Fireflies,” is now triple platinum and hit the #1 spot on the Hot 100 twice as well as going #1 in 22 countries around the world! He played his first live show in February of 2009 and has been on the road with his band since May of 2009 on several consecutive sold out headlining tours in the US and abroad. With a platinum debut album, an international hit single, an impressive touring record and a slew of critical acclaim (New York Times, Rolling Stone, People, Entertainment Weekly, USA Today, etc.), Adam Young is amazed by everything he’s accomplished as Owl City this past year and even more excited about what’s ahead.
Owl City will be at the Comcast Center on August 5 w/ Maroon 5 ~ get your tickets now if there are any left!!!!
