Matt Baldelli’s photography is strikingly vibrant, full of the brilliant hues of nature. Glittery snow-covered trees, fuzzy green moss, sparkly seawater splashing against a pier, the full moon surrounded by the star-studded night sky ~ these are just a few of the images that illustrate his true appreciation of the environment. “Nature is my inspiration,” says the 24-year-old freelance photographer. “I love being outdoors.”

Don’t write him off as solely a nature photographer, though ~ Baldelli shines in his commercial work as well. As a professional advertising, editorial and stock photographer, he often photographs food for newspapers and magazines. His love of colors and saturation is apparent in every picture he takes.

Baldelli’s interest in photography started in middle school, and after taking classes in high school it was clear he could make a career out of it. After completing the one year program at Hallmark Institute of Photography, Baldelli started out on his own, establishing his own company, Matt Baldelli Photography.

As a freelancer for six years, Baldelli says that it’s not about what he’s shooting, but the fact that he’s shooting at all. “I don’t prefer any job over another ~ I just love to be shooting, to create an image, to create beauty,” he says. And being a freelancer, he’s not held down by constraints of a nine-to-five job. “I love to take road trips and photograph along the way,” he says. He hopes soon to be able to take photos around the world, adding, “My ultimate dream would be to travel to Iceland and New Zealand.”

Baldelli says that with the change in the photography industry to digital, anyone with a digital camera can experiment with photography. “People have been able to spend less on equipment and make really creative stuff,” he says. “Now it’s not about what you own, but how you use it.”

Why don’t you take a page out of Baldelli’s book and shoot some of your own beautiful spring surroundings?
