Mane Entertainment, founded by actor Tyler Mane (X-MEN, HALLOWEEN, TROY), has attached David A. Armstrong as the director for the company’s first film, Penance Lane. Armstrong is best known as the DP for the first six Saw films and will bring his powerful cinematic vision to this next generation haunted house movie. The horror-thriller Penance Lane was penned by Munier Sharrieff, writer of the top-selling comic book Battle Chasers. Adam B. Finer of Arpil Entertainment and Renae Geerlings of Mane Entertainment are also producing.

Mane Entertainment CEO Tyler Mane shared, “I’m thrilled to have such an amazing team coming together, led by Armstrong’s vision. With a lineup of Saw and Halloween veterans, Penance Lane is a really smart horror-thriller. We don’t just set ’em up and knife ’em down. There are twists and turns, and no one is who you think they are.”

“Penance Lane is a dark and twisted story set in a terrifying haunted house where nothing is at it seems. I’m looking forward to delving into this visually compelling and intensely scary script in collaboration with horror icon Tyler Mane and an amazing team,” added David Armstrong. “Moviegoers will be blown away by Penance Lane.”

In the film, Mane stars as Crimson Matthews, a recently released ex-con who has taken a job as a handyman in a down-on-its-luck town being shepherded by the charismatic Father John. When people start to disappear into the dingy depths of the dilapidated old house on Penance Lane, Crimson appears to be back to his murderous old ways. But Crimson finds he is not alone in the run down old place and discovers a secret there, more brutal and terrifying than he could ever have expected.

Last year, horror movies had a very strong box office showing ~ in excess of $1.2 billion worldwide ~ and 2010 is already seeing the first three offerings for January and February (Daybreakers, Legion, and Wolfman) garnering a worldwide box office total of over $186M.

Penance Lane is currently in the financing phase and is slated to begin filming this Spring.
