If you’ve ever felt the pain of an ear infection in the evening hours, sat for hours in the ER with a sprained ankle or waited months to get an appointment for a physical, you’ll be happy to know that The Doctor Is IN on Park Avenue in Worcester.

The walk-in medical clinic, staffed by board-certified physician Dr. T. Bryan Miller, is open from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. The clinic, designed to provide evening and weekend healthcare for minor illnesses and injuries, operates on a fee-for-service system, payable by cash, check or credit card.

Insurance is not required ~ in fact, it’s not even accepted. So if you’re out of work, or have a job without health benefits (like in the service industry,) it’s helpful…really helpful. Patients with primary care physicians are still welcome.

Dr. Miller said the clinic has seen steady ~ and increasing ~ business since it opened in January, serving both patients without insurance and those who appreciate the clinic’s convenient hours. In addition to treating ailments, the clinic offers routine physicals, accommodating schoolchildren and job-seekers who might have otherwise waited months to be seen by their regular physician.

“We’ve drawn patients not only from Worcester, but as far away as Grafton and Paxton,” he said.

Most office visits cost patients $40, he said. Physicals are $50, and lacerations/skin procedures are $60. But Dr. Miller understands that even these reasonable prices might still be cost-prohibitive for some.

“We aren’t going to turn anyone away,” he said. “We can work something out.”

Dr. Miller, a native of Shrewsbury, attended Bates College in Maine and University of Massachusetts Medical School. He completed his residency in Pittsburgh and became board-certified in family medicine in 2000. After working at Heywood Hospital in Gardner, he started his own practice in town in 2003, where he spends his daytime hours.

Although his days are long, Dr. Miller, whose grandfather was a country doctor in Tennessee, knows he’s in the right profession.

“The reward of seeing someone get better is good for me,” he said. “I love interacting with people and fixing their problems. I can’t see myself doing anything else.”
