Time To Chow Down
By Leeanne Griffin
Without question, Thanksgiving is the most food-centric of all American holidays. It’s practically mandatory to stuff yourself full of turkey and pie and then doze off in front of football on TV. So to get you into this delicious mindset, we bring you a series of websites and blogs that are all about ~ you guessed it ~ food.
Livejournal – Food Porn
community.livejournal.com/food_porn/
Chill out, it’s not what you think. But for foodies, this site may excite just as much. It’s a gathering spot for “recipe mavens” to share their adventures in cooking with recipes, tips, and ~ best of all ~ full-color photos of the finished products.
If you’re a beginner cook, this is a good resource for you. The blog is interactive and friendly, with plenty of opportunities to ask questions and receive advice from fellow budding chefs. Just be sure to post a picture of your success once you’re done, so fellow Livejournalers can enjoy the food porn.
Foodbloggin

This site doesn’t need much explanation ~ it’s just pictures of food. Lots and lots of food. Whether it’s a steak enjoyed at a chain eatery, a quick bagel at home or a piece of birthday cake in the office, Foodbloggin contributors tend to photograph and submit every little thing they eat. The strongest and most mouthwatering photos tend to come from restaurant meals.
Perhaps the most interesting thing about Foodbloggin is its international flair. Its contributors reside all over the world, so as you scroll down the page you’re as likely to see photos of southern barbecue from North Carolina as you are to see plates of gyoza from Japan. Unfortunately, many of the international submissions are lacking captions, so sometimes the food is unrecognizable. But it’s still kind of fascinating to see what the rest of the world is eating, even if it’s whole fried fish with eyes.
Cakespace

Fans of the Food Network show “Ace of Cakes” will love this blog. Cake decorator Wendy posts photos of her breathtaking original cake designs. There are cakes shaped like castles, NASCAR racecars, pirate ships, airplanes and Curious George. Her wedding and anniversary cakes are just as beautiful and elegant. Just a warning ~ you will experience a fierce craving for sugar and buttercream after checking out this site.
Junk Food Blog
www.junkfoodblog.com/
You have to love a website that describes itself as “crispier than ever…with 20% more peanuts, extra cheese, fairly-traded pixels, and individually wrapped.” Junk Food Blog catalogues the latest developments in all things bad for you, everything from candy to soda to fast food. If you can’t wait to find out what new flavors Haagen-Dazs has cooked up, or what items McDonald’s will be adding to their dollar menu, this is your kind of site. And if you’re a chocoholic, you’re in luck ~ Junk Food Blog shows a particular fondness for sweet things.
Warning: this blog is absolutely not for the health nuts. Junk Food Blog revels in the absurdity and hilarity of Jimmy Dean Chocolate Chip Pancakes & Sausage on a stick and White Castle hamburger stuffing for Thanksgiving turkeys. If you can’t appreciate that, then go back to the treadmill.
