As the war in Iraq and Afghanistan wages on, the list of families here in Central MA affected by it grows daily. Regardless of our opinion of the war, none of us can deny that the sons and daughters of Central MA are putting their lives at risk. In recognition of these members of the military ~ our family and friends ~ each month Pulse will be honoring one member of the armed services from Worcester County as our Hero of the Month. To submit someone for Hero of the Month, please send a photo of him or her along with hometown, age, military rank and unit, an overseas address where he or she can be contacted, and a brief message ~ like the one below ~ that you would like to accompany the photo to the Editor at ldean@pagioinc.com.
What can a mother say about her son who’s stationed in Iraq? I’m proud of him, I’m scared for him and I pray for him daily, along with all our other brave soldiers serving at this time. Spencer is stationed in Al Asad, the 2nd largest airbase in Iraq. It’s located west of Baghdad and southwest of the Euphrates River. It’s 110o there now! When Spencer’s not working, he and his buddies watch DVDs and keep in touch via email, IM, etc. His favorite food since arriving in Iraq (along with a lot of the other marines) is beef jerky. You can send the troops tons of it and they’ll be happy. It’s easy to mail, won’t spoil and always tastes good! If you have the opportunity, send a letter, card or package to Spencer and his unit at the address under his photo above.
How come it doesn’t mention that Spencer’s hometown is good old Clinton Mass?
