Imperial Buffet, located in the Fairlawn Plaza at 380 Maple Ave. in Shrewsbury, is one of the newest arrivals in town catering to the all-you-can-eat crowd. The buffet offers both Chinese and American specialties at six different buffet stations. The offerings include a raw bar, a grilled food bar, a dessert bar, as well as a full sushi bar with its own sushi chef and made-to-order dishes.

The buffet looks like many other all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet, but that is where the similarities end. With over 250 different offerings, no matter how many times you visit you will never have the same meal twice. Traditional American-Chinese specialties such as chicken fingers, egg rolls, and fried rice are served next to less tradition Chinese buffet fare including customizable sushi, stir fries, and an extensive dessert selection. Everything is fresh and delicious and, combined with the seemingly never-ending variety, makes Imperial Buffet stand head and shoulders above other restaurants of its kind.

Owner Brian Cheng is not new to the restaurant scene ~ he owns five other restaurants including another Imperial Buffet in Milford. Cheng is originally from Hong Kong, but moved here with his family and attended the University of Connecticut. His parents owned a Chinese take-out restaurant while he was growing up. Cheng’s experience and appreciation of truly exceptional dining are evident in the menu, preparation, and décor of his newest endeavor.

Aside from the buffet, there is also a full bar. Imperial Buffet seats 225 and does accept reservations for larger parties. It is open for lunch Monday – Saturday from 11:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., dinner Monday – Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 3:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Cheng keeps prices moderate as well, with lunch priced at $7.45, dinner Monday -Thursday at $11.95, dinner on Saturday at $12.95, and the all day buffet on Sunday at $12.95. The buffet is available for take-out as well.
