The Center for Arts in Natick, 14 Summer Street, is introducing a “SpeakEasy! Open Mic” for poets, playwrights, and lovers of improvisation on the first Tuesday of the month from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Presenters will be limited to five minutes for one person and 10 minutes for a group, with a PG-13 rating for material; participants receive feedback and support. Admission is $5 and is free to TCAN members. Acoustic Java, 932A Main Street (just around the corner from Clark University and a few doors down from Annie’s Clark Brunch) continues to host an acoustic open mic every Wednesday night at 8 p.m. Me & The Kid, AKA Dave Magario and Zak Ciras, serve as your trusted MCs, serving up selections from their upcoming Daring Arts CD.
There’s been a changing of the guards at the Wednesday night open mic at the Sit N Bull, 163 Main Street in Maynard. Seth Connelly has taken over hosting duties for the long-running event that kicks off at 8 p.m. (with sign-ups beginning at 7 p.m.) and has a feature performer at 9:15 p.m. Each musician gets two to four songs. After testing the crowd this summer, Brian Richard’s gotten himself a regular Sunday night gig at Irish Times, 244 Main Street. He’ll be playing your favorite songs from Marvin Gaye and Elvis Costello to Stone Temple Pilots and even Trebek on the first floor starting at 9:30 p.m.
