Jose Murphy’s
By Linnea Sheldon

What do you get when you mix Mexican fare with a couple of Irishmen? You get Jose Murphy’s, which means two floors and 6,000 sq. ft. of dining, drinking, and relaxing.

Dessie McKane and Cal Dolan, the owners of Funky Murphy’s, used a similar mix of good food, a comfortable, lively atmosphere and a full bar when they decided to open their new business located at 97 – 103 Water Street in Worcester.

The interior is what McKane described as “an upbeat sports bar.” With 11 giant plasma TVs and a large LCD screen, it is the perfect place to catch a game. With a full, Mexican-oriented restaurant open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., it’s also the perfect place to grab a bite to eat. The kitchen is run by Michael Algerie, and even though the atmosphere is similar, the menu is completely different than Funky Murphy’s.
The bar is open until 2 a.m. every night, and with a full bar on each floor getting a drink should never be a problem. The downstairs area opened at the beginning of August and includes the restaurant portion as well as a bar area. The second floor is expected to open in early September and will have a bar as well as a lounge area.

Jose Murphy’s is a new place for anything from business lunches, to after-work cocktails, to a late night drink. The atmosphere is casual, so you’ll see all sorts of people coming and going, so make sure you’re in the mix, and you’ll be sure to have a great time.
