On a recent Friday night, Sogruv made their musical debut at the Lucky Dog in Worcester, introducing their innovative infusion of hard-core, reggae, and blues. This energetic quintet played a unique blend of heavy grooves and hard-core rock. Lead singer, Joe Grampetro, 21, took command of the stage unyieldingly as percussionist Dana Bonardi, 21, played with assurance during the reggae-laden cut “Need Rest”. Lead guitarist, Joshua Kleiner, 21, displayed his artistic talent throughout the entire set and Jake Oliver, 26, grooved hard on the bass. The band’s drummer Anthony Gambiccini, 20, played with such authority that we think this band will take the local musical scene by storm.
Anthony and Joe, who are former members of Stankboot and Jake, formally of Seven Hill Psychos, are no amateurs. Although Josh and Dana may be new to the scene, they are far from inexperienced. Using music and life itself as an inspiration, their genuine musical ability is in a class all its own. For the last five months, their individual love for music and collective dedication result in the aesthetically sound union that is Sogruv. These young men are all about having fun and throwing themselves into a performance. When they played “You Can’t Break Me,” the group pumped their fists in the air and let off energetic vibes as the instrumentals reverberated throughout the venue.
Sogruv’s style is incomparable to any band in the area. With years of playing experience backing each member, the creative energy comes from “being able to breathe life into something that wasn’t there before”, says Joshua. This group transforms life into sounds. They take you on a journey from rough beats to smooth grooves. Each song is distinct, breaking the monotonous format so many bands fall into.
