Artful April

Spring in Worcester is shaping up to be a season of connection, creativity, and celebration for the local LGBTQIA+ community. From drag brunches to art exhibitions, there’s no shortage of ways to gather, explore, and be inspired. Whether you’re a longtime resident, newly out, or just dipping your toes into the city’s queer scene, read on for a trio of events designed to lift spirits and spark connections.
First up, mark your calendars for Sunday, April 12, and get ready for Queer the Scene’s Best Little Drag Brunch in Worcester at the Cocktail Garden and Kitchen. Hosted by the one and only Victoria Obvious, this 18+ brunch promises a lively, vibrant afternoon. Radiant performances by the fabulous fluffle of Bad Bunnies—Diva D, Dale Lepage, and special guest pop drag king Sir Royce—are sure to get revelers bouncing. Music by DanceAway Sound will keep the energy high. Doors open at noon and a generous buffet will be served starting at 12:30 PM. The show kicks off at 1:30 PM. Tickets are available online at theticketing.co—grab yours before they vanish!
Wednesday, April 15, the spotlight shifts to connection and community at the third annual Worcester LGBTQ+ Icebreaker, also at the Cocktail Garden and Kitchen. Doors open at 5 PM, and the event begins at 6 PM. Presented by lgbtWOO, this free, 18+ event is tailored for those new to the local queer scene—new residents, newly out individuals, or anyone exploring their identity. Worcester resident Alice Romeo, who created the Icebreaker, drew inspiration from her own experience navigating coming out without a support network. This welcoming event allows attendees to meet queer business owners, resource providers, and other LGBTQIA+ folks in a comfortable, low-pressure environment. Highlights include a complimentary appetizer table, cash bar, free raffle prizes, personalized nametags with conversation starters, and a strict photo policy to ensure privacy. Registration is open until April 12 at lgbtwoo.org.
Art and inspiration take center stage on Thursday, April 16, with the Grand Opening of the Creative Hub Community Arts Center at 4 PM. Guests can explore the newly renovated center with guided tours, meet resident artists in their studios, and immerse themselves in the opening exhibit at the Creative Hub Gallery. Discover upcoming classes, workshops, and events, enjoy a ribbon-cutting ceremony, light refreshments, and a champagne toast, and dance into the evening with music from DanceAway Sound Productions. The exhibit features the breathtaking silk artworks of internationally acclaimed Xiang Li, whose collection Chinese Empresses showcases over 200 empresses rendered in gemstone watercolors on silk. Xiang Li’s work has been celebrated at the Harvard Museums, Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Worcester Art Museum, JMAC, Cambridge Library, and Tower Hill Botanical Garden.
From dazzling performances and intimate community gatherings to awe-inspiring art, April in Worcester offers opportunities to celebrate queer identity, build connections, and become immerses in creativity. No matter your experience or background, these events offer chances to see, be seen, and belong.
