On Saturday, May 19, The WorcShop will host a Women’s Welding 101 course! The event, located on 243 Stafford St., Worcester, will be from 1-5 p.m. The event is offered for women who are interested in learning how to weld in a welcoming environment, with only a few spots available in order to focus on each student individually. The course will offer education to the basics of MIG welding, as well as basic fabrication essentials. You will also be able to create your own project out of steel with the skills you have learned through the course.
Amanda Barker, a member from the WorcShop, will teach the course. Barker has been working with steel and copper since 2011. Barker has a passion for urban farming, as well as metal working, and runs and owns Cotyledon Farm in Leicester MA. She also has been working for Eternity Ironworks for many years, as well as teaching classes in welding and copper-bowl forming at the WorcShop. She is also the director of Nuestro Huerto, an urban farming project in Worcester.
Barker recommends that students come into the class with questions and project ideas. She wants to help strengthen a skill set that is very helpful for any “do-it-yourself-er” or just someone in interesting in learning a new skill set.
