I love the rock necklace trend. I have bought a ton of them. They make me feel like I have secret powers and I am Queen of the Universe and I fly around on my pet unicorn.

I decided it’s high time to take matters into my own hands and create more of these. Options are endless: earrings, bracelets, toe rings, nose rings, a crown for me and my unicorn. And right in time for gift-giving season. Everyone is getting these for the holidays. I collected crazy stuff from around my house, so that I didn’t have to spend any money. I want to spend my holiday money on things that matter: Candy cane martinis, boots, eggnog lattes and matching outfits for me and my unicorn. This little project is easy, but you have to be able to take some time in between each step.

Supplies:
Play-Doh or modeling clay
Wire
Glass glitter
Mod Podge
Metallic paint or nail polish
Unicorn

Steps:

  1. Take your dough, roll it into a ball and mold it into a rock-like shape. Don’t be perfect, just squish it around and flatten it a bit. Then, take a piece of wire, loop it and stick it far enough into the dough that it feels secure. Play around with the dough until you get your ultimate imperfect, perfect geode shape. Let the dough dry, either on a flat space for a day or two or speed up the process by baking it at 200 degrees for 25-35 minutes.
  2. When you are ready to paint the metallic edges, just brush nail polish or metallic acrylic paint on the sides and let dry. Then, if you want your rock geode a different color from the Play-Doh, just start painting. You can marbleize the paint or nail polish on the front with a little water and a Q-tip. It is so easy, you cannot fail at this. And if you do, wipe off the paint or wait until it dries, then paint again. Let the dough dry an hour or two.
  3. Lastly, paint the Mod Podge on front, where you want the geode to show dimension. Sprinkle on glass glitter. Dry and repeat if you want more texture. Let dry another hour. If you want to seal the front to make it less rough, apply more Mod Podge over the glitter and let it dry. Then, you have the option of painting the back. Try a different color and use the same process or use the metallic paint to cover the back. When it comes to the glitter, you have to use glass glitter. Regular glitter just does not do the trick. You will look like you are wearing a cheap Pinterest fail.
  4. The options are endless as to what you can make from this little crafty project. You can make paperweights, bookends and doorknobs. Throw your geode on a chain to make a necklace. Use it as a keychain. Make a bracelet. Make 20 of them, put them all on and just wear them around your house. Make up your own language. Put on your Power of the Universe crown, jump on your unicorn and go off like a galactic geode queen. I will save you a spot next to me on the moon and some candy cane martinis.
