This year, we’ve had some pretty iconic moments. Whether you’re going solo or are looking for an idea for a group costume, you can weave 2014’s costume into something that’s sure to get you noticed at Halloween parties.

 

COUPLE COSTUMES

German football player and model girlfriend
You and your partner can reenact the post-World Cup championship social media frenzy with just a few sporty wardrobe pieces. Buy two German football uniforms for the same player. The woman should wear her uniform backwards. The man should wear his uniform conventionally and splash water on his armpits, so it looks like he’s been playing football in the Brazilian heat for 90-plus minutes. The piece-de-resistance? Ladies, use your smartphones to take a barrage of selfies posing with your boyfriend, who is lying exhausted on the ground.

Sex Tape
This one also works for same-sex couples. Fight amongst yourselves as to who wears what, but for this puny costume, one partner wears a duct tape outfit while the other wears lingerie. Make sure to keep the candy and/or alcohol to a minimum tonight, unless you want to bring the name to fruition.

Alice Nelson, Brady Bunch housekeeper
Actress Ann B. Davis, known for her iconic role as the Brady Bunch family’s housekeeper, passed away this summer. This Halloween, celebrate the wacky, forgetful, but always loving, character that was Alice. A few hours before you go out, roll your hair into large, old-fashioned pin curlers for Alice’s familiar hairstyle. Don a simple mid-century housedress with buttons and a collar. To finish the ensemble, wear white sneakers and a clean apron.

Looking for an excuse to wear that great new LBD you just bought? Angelina Jolie’s newest blockbuster, Maleficent, is a mix of Disney fairytale and the darkness of Grimm’s folklore. Slick your hair back with a solid gel, use a very light foundation to create a pale look and accentuate your eyes with thick, black eyeliner and fake lashes. Create two horns by gluing two black Solo cups to a black athletic headband.

If you’re a music groupie, you knew and loved Tommy Ramone. The legendary rocker passed away this summer, and the best way to commemorate his career is to hit up a karaoke bar in full costume. The Ramones were all about the music, so this costume is super easy: dirty jeans, tussled hair and a black leather jacket.

 

 

FRIEND GROUPS

This one requires hula hoops and color-coordinated clothing, so you might need to plan ahead if you’re going to pull it off. You’ll need five people; four of you wear white and hold one white hula hoop each. The fifth person will wear black and hold a black hula hoop. When you stand together, hold your hula hoops in the configuration of the Olympic rings, with the person in black on the far bottom right. You’ll be reenacting the most memorable moment of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics.
