We’ve all shared the excitement of decoding a mystery, whether it’s watching Law and Order or solving board-game murders created by Parker Brothers. Now, Amber Rochelle Gillet introduces The PMS Private Investigator Series ~ a hilarious and playful spin on mystery that is anything but Sherlock Holmes.

Gillet, a Rutland native and mother of four, is a jack of all trades. As a full-time analyst by day, Gillet can now add self-publisher and author to her list of talents. “I never went to school for writing, but I’ve always loved to read. I remember in high school, I would write my friends term papers for them,” Amber laughed, as she recalled where this all began.

A Family Affair, the first installment of the contemporary mystery series, was born from Gillet’s go-with-the-flow mentality. Gillet found it difficult to write about her own life experiences, which she described as “an odd collection of events,” so she created the fictional character of Paula Stone, private investigator.

While juggling a successful career, four boys and the busy buzz of life, writing is a perfect distraction for Gillet.

“Often, I’ll write in bed if I’m feeling inspired,” she said. “So instead of obsessing over bills that need to be paid or deadlines at work, I’ll use my imagination to create stories.”

Writing a book can stretch over of months, even years for some authors. Gillet, on the other hand, didn’t follow any rules when writing her books. “I do what works best for me; I’m more likely to sit down and write three-quarters of a book in one sitting and then, revisit the story as new ideas grow,” Gillet said.

With multi-tasking as her superpower, Gillet was sure to take advantage of her motivation. “I just sat down and thought, ‘OK, I’m not going to put too much thought into this and just do it.’ I didn’t want to worry about if it was going to be successful or not.”

If you’re looking for a story filled with twists and turns, A Family Affair is a short, but entertaining, story ~ 76 pages, to be exact ~ that will leave you wanting more. “When I’m done with a book, I want to be done with it. It’s a nice, easy read,” Gillet said.

A Family Affair is available in print and as a digital download on Amazon.com and the Apple Store. Keep an eye out (magnifying glass and pipe optional) for her second book in the series, which is scheduled to launch this summer.

Gillet doesn’t plan on wrapping up the series anytime soon. “I intend on writing until nobody wants to read them anymore.”
