REMINDER: Worcester Restaurant Week is in its second week and runs until March 8. Visit www.WorcesterRestasurantWeek.com for full details. Best to make reservations at your favorite place or better yet-be adventuresome and try a place you have never been to.
Amici gets new kitchen. Chef Paula McCarthy, of Amici Trattoria, in Shrewsbury informs us that she has a whole new kitchen to work in. Amici was recently closed for two weeks after a major water leak (pipe burst) caused major damage to the kitchen. All is well now, and Paula has a brand new kitchen to cook up great Italian food ~ not bad.
Fresh Mex. David Brambila and his extended family, which appears to own ervery Mexican restaurant outside of Mexico City, have decide to rebrand some of them into Mexicali Fresh Mex Grill, which says it all. The first two to make the change will be the Mexicali Grill in Spencer and Playa del Carmen in Holden. There are also plans to open one in Ware soon. We don’t know about his other places, such as the Acapulco restaurants, but we will keep you posted.
Eat in the West. The Taste of Metro West will be held March 12 at the Sheraton Framingham on Route 9. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. This is the third annual Taste, and it will feature food samplings, as well as chef demonstrations. Contact the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce for more information.
Clinton goes Mediterranean. Zaytoon Mediterranean Restaurant recently opened its doors on High Street in Clinton. It calls itself eastern Mediterranean, but the food drifts more to the Middle East, with all of your favorites, such as hummus, grape leaves and chicken shawarma, on the menu. As an added bonus, it is Hallal certified. The restaurant is open from 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Monday-Saturday and until 9 p.m. Sunday.
Where there’s smoke, there’s ribs. B.T.’s Smokehouse on Sturbridge’s Route 20 will be adding 20 more seats for all those folks who are just addicted to the pig. We hear great things about this place. Construction should be completed by the beginning of summer ~ prime barbecue season.
India Café moves. India Café on Route 9 in Shrewsbury will make a short move when it opens up in its new location next to Dunkin’ Donuts in the newly refurburbished White City Mall West. Construction is well under way, and the new sign is up, so it should be ready shortly.
Speaking of reopening. The sign on Snow’s Seafood Restaurant on Worcester’s West Boylston Street now says “Opening March 4.” I would call before going, since construction schedules never hold up. The restaurant had hoped to be open by the last week of February. They were closed due to a fire sometime in the fall.
Also on West Boylston Street. Golden Pita, a new sandwich shop/ restaurant, will open on West Boylston Street in Worcester down the street from Quinsigamond Community College. We can guess by the name that it may offer Middle Eastern food.
