Charlotte Cole

Clark University’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program will hold “The World Is Yours,” from 4-7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, in the Traina Center for the Arts and Razzo Hall, 92 Downing St.  Charlotte Cole, senior vice president of global education at Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind Sesame Street, will deliver the keynote address.  The event is free and open to the public.

Cole oversees the nonprofit’s company-wide global education strategies and leads the development of all curriculum and research around Sesame Workshop’s international projects. Sesame Workshop has formed local partnerships in 30 countries to create TV programs that are tailored to the culture and environment that children experience every day.  At 6 p.m., Cole will speak about how Sesame Workshop uses Muppets to promote education and global health issues around the world.

Prior to joining the Workshop, Cole worked as a senior researcher at Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston on a longitudinal study of families of children with acute and chronic illness funded by the National Institutes of Health.  She has also served as a consultant to the Harvard Institute for International Development on several child-health projects in Thailand.

Cole received her doctorate in human development and psychology from the Harvard Graduate School of Education at Harvard University.  She has taught at Boston College, Lesley College and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in Terre Haute, Ind.  Cole is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Children and Media and served as the publication’s founding review and commentary editor.
