World-renowned and respected Russian producer Proxy ~ enigmatic, fearless, and rarely available for photographs or interviews ~ makes his long-awaited return with the release of his debut album, Music from The Eastblock Jungles. A two-part series ~ a rare feat in today’s singles-driven electronic music market ~ Music from The Eastblock Jungles will be released on Dim Mak Records in North America and on Turbo Reordings internationally. Music from The Eastblock Jungles Part II is out February 11, while Music from The Eastblock Jungles Part I is available now.
Proxy has created a work that harnesses the spirit of pure electronic music culture and showcases the prolific underground dance floor-czar’s wide-spanning body of work. Years in the making, the Music from The Eastblock Jungles series features a massive stockpile of new material with over 20 combined tracks that span and elevate countless genres ~ notably inflected by classic bass and drum ‘n’ bass ethos—without regard for trends or ephemeral influences. Part I opens the siege with flag-bearing marches (“Raja Ganja”), imperial air-raid bangers (“Raw”), and unhinged breakbeat madness (“Junk”) ~ and also features Proxy classics both renowned (“Raven”) and unreleased (“Abyss”). Part II forces an unconditional surrender with a mix of acid (“Audio 15”), ambient (“Nanomed”), Eastern-flavored pop (“Coke”) and hip-hop inflected head-nodders (“9000”). The Music from The Eastblock Junglesseries is the product of an artist who forged a sound in complete isolation with visa problems leading him to entrench himself in the middle of nowhere in his native Russia, continuing in the U.K. rave tradition of his Essex-spawned idols The Prodigy. The disparate pieces of Music from The Eastblock Jungles converge into a monolithic nation-statement, one worthy of one of the most talented producers of his generation.
