Taking cues from classic pop, rock’n’roll, and Americana, Hollis Brown combines raw rock sensibilities with sweet melodies and heartfelt lyrics to create a rich, warm sound that can fill any room. After releasing their debut EP last year, the NYC-based band is gearing up to put out their first full-length album, Ride on the Train. Full of gritty jams and soft, sweet ballads, Ride on the Train will be released March 5th via Alive Records.
Despite its title, album track “Down on Your Luck” sets a bright, hopeful tone with twangy guitars and a playful vocal melody. “Doghouse Blues” is a straight-up bluesy rock song with rollicking melodies and dirty guitar licks. “Walk On Water” kicks it up a notch with raw vocals and screeching guitar solos. Tracks like the melancholic “If It Ain’t Me” and the powerfully optimistic “Faith & Love” showcase the band’s vulnerable side. The album closes on a sweet note with “Nightfall,” fading out with smooth, crooning vocals drifting above light, dreamy instrumentation.

BUCKCHERRY
Buckcherry has just premiered the provocative video for “Gluttony” ~ the first single from their new Confessions album exclusively at AOL Music (http://music.aol.com) and AOL’s Noisecreep.com (www.noisecreep.com/2013/01/16/buckcherry-gluttony-video/). The daring clip was directed by Billy Jayne and features the band performing the song in a church filled with people indulging in all types of vices, while the video’s protagonist struggles to overcome his own gluttony.
The multi-platinum Los Angeles rock band will release Confessions February 19 and the “Gluttony” single is
already available for purchase through iTunes now (itunes.apple.com/us/album/gluttony-single/id584509774). The band’s sixth studio album and first U.S. release for Century Media Records merges punk grit, gutter attitude, honest storytelling, and razor sharp hooks. The lyrics are tied together by the underlying theme of the Seven Deadly Sins.
Buckcherry vocalist Josh Todd explains the inspiration for the “Gluttony” video: “The concept of the video is excess, consuming everything excessively, and moderation is not even in the equation. I’m very familiar with that, and a lot of guys in the band are familiar with that.”
He continues: “Because the record is called Confessions, we filmed the video in a church, we got Jesus down
there–which is killer–and we got a lot of our fans in it, which is amazing. They came out on their own time and really put in a lot of sweat equity, so thank you to them.”
Guitarist Keith Nelson elaborates, “We worked with Billy Jayne, who hasn’t done a lot of music videos. It was really refreshing to see his take on what we’re doing because he totally gets the music, he’s connecting with it, and he’s taking it to a different place than a guy who does videos for a living. We got a guy who actually makes movies and TV shows to put his spin on it and it’s been really positive.”
“Gluttony” is also receiving early praise from the media. Rick Florino of ArtistDirect.com said the song “…shines with the kind of skittering rock decadence the world could use a whole hell of a lot more of” (December 11, 2012). Buckcherry is currently on the road and will be previewing songs from Confessions along the way.

ZEDS DEAD
Canadian DJ/production duo Zeds Dead, made up of members DC and Hooks, will release their Hot Sauce EP via Diplo’s Mad Decent label on January 29.
The follow-up to last year’s Mad Decent EP Victor features 5 instrumental tracks that find the duo exploring more sonic territory with their music, further proving that they are one of the most versatile electronic groups around. Since their 2010 debut Rudeboy, the group has been selling out venues all over the world, including last year’s Mad Decent Block Parties in LA and Toronto, and have forged ahead with every release, mastering many types of electronic music.
From the opener “Demons,” a nightmare-inducing track with heavy, pulsating synths as well as keys and strings plucked straight from classic horror films to “Mr. Sub,” which displays a more minimalist approach from the duo with a bouncing bass and touches of space-disco synths, to “Rave,” a breakbeat monster that hits so fast they put in audible breaths to remind listeners to take one themselves.
Also coming will be a video from acclaimed Black Swan choreographer Benjamin Millepied. This no-holds-barred approach to electronic music has posed Zeds Dead as one to keep an eye on in the year ahead.

Destinesia, a six-song EP from Southern California singer/songwriter Scott James, will be released on January 29th. With Bass For Your Face, the Los Angeles producer turns his considerable hard-won skills and discerning ear to dubstep, glitch, dub electronics in 10 original tracks (2 bonus tracks) featuring rising stars of hip-hop, a grime legend, and a hip-hop god ~ and also an unknown Finnish singer discovered on SoundCloud. AIMEE BOBRUK
Austin-based singer-songwriter Aimee Bobruk has announced a month-long tour in support of her upcoming album /ba.’brook/ (a phonetic spelling of her Russian last name), scheduled for release on 
January 29th. The string of dates throughout the South, Midwest and Northeast includes an official showcase appearance at the Folk Alliance International festival in Toronto, as well as a series of shows with fellow Austin musicians Suzanna Choffel (a recent contestant on “The Voice”) and Hilary York.
To celebrate the news, Bobruk has offered up a download of “A Day In The Life,” the latest single and lead track from /ba.’brook/, premiered exclusively by American Songwriter. Although it shares its name with the final track of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, the song actually takes its inspiration from a different source: Kimya Dawson’s quirky, acoustic contributions to the Juno soundtrack. “It’s intended to be a simple love song about two teenagers eloping ~ a teenage boy and his projections of how his girlfriend’s family will take the news of their departure,” explains Bobruk.
Bobruk collaborates with producer/bassist Brian Beattie and drummer Dony Wynn on /ba.’brook/. Beattie hails from Austin’s avant-garde punk rock band Glass Eye and has produced albums for Daniel Johnston, Okkervil River, Bill Callahan and Shearwater. Wynn has worked with such artists as Robert Plant and Robert Palmer and is known for building his drum kits out of everything from banana peels to filing cabinets. BROOKE WAGGONER
It’s been over three years since Brooke Waggoner has released a new album, but she’s been far from inactive.
“In the span of time between the release of my last album, Go Easy Little Doves, in 2009 and the beginning 
of production on Originator in 2011, I spent my time producing albums for other bands, writing music for short films, and playing piano in Jack White’s all-female band, The Peacocks,” Brooke said. “It’s been a good time to ‘Fill my well’ so to speak.”
On March 5th, Brooke will release her third studio album: Originator. With her ethereal vocals and haunting piano woven through every song it’s her finest work yet.
Since the release of her debut EP, Fresh Pair of Eyes in 2007, Brooke Waggoner has attracted an eclectic group of fans and writers. Publications as diverse as The New York Times, NME, Paste, and her hometown paper The Tennessean have all raved about her talents.
Keeping true to her sound, Brooke recorded Originator in Nashville with vintage gear and tape ~ no computers, just a room with really good musicians and ears for beautiful things.
“It’s a project that I actively sought to progress sonically, emotionally, lyrically, and artistically,” Brooke commented. “The songs feel like a new period in my writing and I pushed harder on this record than I ever have in the past.”
Songs like “From the Nest” and “Welspryng” lyrically deal with content that needed addressing: getting our fingers dirty in relationships and the irony of searching for love while hurting your loved ones.
“Rumble” is an anthem, a call to battle, a reminder not to be a victim of your own limitations.
Details of a US tour will be announced in the near future and Brooke will be performing at the 2013 SXSW Music Festival.
