The epitome of a triple threat, Sijay (pronounced like “CJ”) is a producer, songwriter and mixer. Every note he sings and every word he writes is meaningful, combining beautifully crafted tones with a rich timbre that one expects only from the most experienced singers. His album Detroit Club, released by World Stage International Records, will bring to listeners a musical mind shaped as a complex instrument that has been resting in a rich marinade of Neo Soul, R&B, and Jazz.

In celebration of the new album and the upcoming holidays, the label is giving away the full length lead single, “Detroit Club,” here.

With its vast musical history and diverse culture, Chicago isn’t the kind of place to just fit in.  Born and raised in the Windy City, Sijay (Colin James Peterik) learned to craft his obsession into a nurturing relationship with lyric and song. Not even his musical upbringing could predict the depth of Sijay’s vocal talent; and when you consider his unique musical style, his apathy towards modern convention, and the passion he breathes for redefining the art of songwriting, fitting in just isn’t in the cards.
Drawing inspiration from personal relationships, alternate history paths, and long and winding road trips, he catalogs a tapestry of original music that brings his passion for originality to the forefront: “Most of the lyrics are about trials of human emotion, playing on common themes like love and loss from a cynical perspective. Many songs are about hypothetical situations occurring to an over-curious protagonist. Songs range from the goings on at a seedy night club with hot tubs on every other floor to a chance encounter with a girl who wears clothes from the 80s and spikes her hair every morning.”

With his modern take on the society showcased in his music, he also has a quintessentially modern take on who exactly his audience is. “Generally the target demographic would be middle class working young adults recently graduated. They may have a serious girlfriend or are perhaps even thinking about having kids. These are the young adults who recently traded in their Grandma’s Buick for something with decent gas mileage. Maybe others traded in their Camaro for a minivan.”

Sijay’s musical roots and urban lifestyle have forever prohibited him from following any musical rules, and have allowed him to seamlessly blend genres to consistently produce music that is in a league of its own. Not fitting in has never been so right.
