Five and Diner closes.  The Five & Diner in Worcester’s Lincoln Plaza Shopping Mall recently closed its doors.  The restaurant and faux diner had been open for about five years.  Quite honestly, I never understood why anyone would go there, when Worcester and the area has so many authentic diners.  After all, the diner was invented here.

Vintage Grill goes vintage. Vintage Grille on Worcester’s Shrewsbury Street has turned back the clock and is now offering $7 lunch specials.  Entrees range from hot roast beef to chargrilled steak tips to chicken & broccoli Alfredo. These lunch specials are served from 11am until 3pm. Also they serve what may be the city’s biggest and thickest Italian Grinder.   Check it out.

Tatnuck Grille set to open.  Tatnuck Grille, which will be moving into the old Tatnuck Square Friendly’s on Chandler Street, is ready to open its doors. No word yet on the menu, but we hear it is going to be a pub style restaurant with a full liquor license. Check their status on Facebook.

Give the Gift of Food.  Hey, if you have friends who are foodies, how about a gift certificate to a great local restaurant?  You have all kinds of choices; check out our sister website www.tasteworcester.com for a complete list of local restaurants.  Some may even be giving a discount, so that if you spend $100 you may get a free gift card to use on yourself.

Give the Gift of Food II. An even better idea is to send the money you were going to spend on that gift card to the Worcester County Food bank instead.  They can make your dollar go pretty far.  Visit them at www.foodbank.org.

2 ovens, no waiting. Bertucci’s is opening a new concept restaurant in White City on December 1st.  It will be called 2ovens and it is the first new concept by Bertucci’s.  The restaurant is built around two ovens, one which cooks brick oven pizza and the other that is used to roast meats, fish and vegetables.  They will also feature an oven burger.  2ovens has a full liquor license.  They also have a 2Go menu.

Everyone’s dishing. Livia’s Dish on Worcester’s Main Street has recently opened for dinner from Wednesday to Saturday.  They are also open seven days a week for breakfast and lunch.  They recently received their liquor license.  They feature Mediterranean cuisine.

I can smell the smoke Smokestack Urban BBQ has completed its move from Harding Street to Green Street in Worcester’s Canal District and is open for business.  The smaller space seems much homier and more comfortable and we hear the BBQ is great.  My personal favorite is the fried chicken.

In the west.  Table 3 Restaurant group, which owns several restaurants in the Sturbridge area, has just completed the renovations to what was formerly the Whistling Swan on Main Street in Sturbridge.  While they kept the upstairs Ugly Duckling, they revamped downstairs and eliminated the Swan.  Avelino, an upscale Italian eatery, has taken its place.
