A Trendy Spin on Tradition – 7 Nana Japanese Steakhouse
By Jennifer Russo
7 Nana Japanese Steakhouse, located at 60 Shrewsbury Street in Worcester, takes traditional Japanese cuisine and décor and splashes them with a modern flair. With a wall fountain cascading water over their proudly displayed logo, impressive glass chandelier highlighted with blue lighting, marbled pillars and dark wood ~ the restaurant is classy without being pretentious. Add to this a fully stocked bar and non-traditional popular music over the speakers and you have a super hip spot to quench your sushi craving and entertain your other senses.
Only open for a couple of months now (kicking things off on June 28th with a spectacular opening party), 7 Nana can seat 170 people and has space for private functions including weddings, business meetings and bachelor(ette) parties. KK, the restaurant’s general manager, tells me that they are already becoming known for their excellent sushi presentation and signature rolls; try their “Out of Control Roll” which features torched tuna, salmon, yellowtail and avocado with spicy miso sauce. 7 Nana also offers delicious tapenyaki, 4 types of sake (including one sparkling) and a full wine list.
I asked KK about the significance of the restaurant’s name. “’Nana’ is the Japanese word for the number seven, which is traditionally a very lucky number,” KK explained.
I dined there recently and was very impressed with the ultra chic ambiance, sushi creations, delectable scorpion bowl and attentive service ~ and I’m pretty sure 7 Nana doesn’t need any more luck. They have it in the bag ~ or rather…on the plate.
