St. Patrick’s Day “Refreshments”
By Rick [O’] Garner
Of course we’ve got to tip our hats to Guinness, the granddaddy and still greatest of all St. Patty’s Day beverages, but there are other yummy concoctions that can make for a festive day as well, and here are some recipes:
•1 oz Michael Collins Blended Irish Whiskey
•.5 oz Calvados
•.5 oz Fresh lime juice
•.5 oz Grenadine
Place a cocktail glass in the freezer for 5 minutes to chill. Place all of the ingredients, except for the lime wheel, into a cocktail shaker filled with ice and vigorously shake the mixture for 35 seconds; strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish the drink with the lime wheel and then serve immediately.
•1.25 oz Irish Whiskey
•1 oz Sweet vermouth
•1 tsp Allspice liqueur
•1/2 oz Simple syrup (one part sugar, one part water)
•1 egg
Add all the ingredients to a shaker and dry shake (without ice) to emulsify. Fill with ice and shake again. Strain into an Irish coffee mug or rocks glass and garnish with grated nutmeg.
•2 oz Michael Collins Blended Irish Whiskey
•.75 oz Orange Curaçao
•.25 oz La Ina Fino Sherry
•1 dash Regans’ Orange Bitters
Add all the ingredients to a mixing glass and fill with ice. Stir and strain into a chilled Martini glass. Garnish with a flamed orange peel.
•1 shot Irish Cream
•1 shot Kahlua
•1 shot Peppermint Schnapps
•1 shot Milk
•1 fresh sprig of Mint
Blend ingredients (except mint sprig) in a bar blender with ice until smooth. Pour into glass and garnish with the mint leaf.
The Irish Trash Can
•1 part Blue Curacao
•1 part Gin
•1 part Rum, light
•1 part Schnapps, peach
•1 part Triple Sec
•1 part Vodka
•1 can Red Bull
Fill glass full of ice, then add all liquors and stir. Add the full can of Red Bull and watch what happens!
Bushmills Irish Buck
•1.5 oz Bushmills Original Irish Whiskey
•.25 oz Fresh lime juice
•2 oz Ginger ale
Add the whiskey and lime juice to a Collins glass filled with ice. Top with the ginger ale and garnish with a lime wheel.
Black Velvet
•5 oz chilled Guinness
•1 1/2 oz. chilled Champagne
Pour Guinness® into a champagne flute. Add champagne carefully, so it does not mix with Guinness®, and serve.
As always, drink responsibly!!!
