Deadmau5 (aka Joel Zimmerman) ~ pronounced “dead mouse” ~ hit Boston for a four-night sold-out concert series that rocked the House of Blues. The venue was packed with people ranging in age from 16 on up, and when the lights went out, the floor was a sea of glowing mau5 ears! deadmau5-3-copy1

Tommy Lee and DJ Aero kicked off the night, followed by Feed Me and Excision. They all did a great job of warming up the crowd for the crazy dance party that was about to let loose. Not only did they have awesome, dance-worthy tracks, but they had insane videos and picture slideshows that can only be described as trippy playing in the background. Opening up for Deadmau5 is quite the task, and these guys certainly nailed it!

When Deadmau5 took the stage, it was as though he were the first performer of the evening.  Everyone in the crowd had more energy than they started the night with, and when the first beats dropped, the place went nuts!

Deadmau5 opened with the crowd pleaser “Where are My Keys” and proceeded to “conduct” this out of control dance party for nearly two hours!  Half way through the set, SOFI made a special appearance and accompanied Deadmau5 for both “Sofi Needs a Ladder” and “One Trick Pony.” Deadmau5’s set consisted of 24 songs total, including everyone’s favorite, “Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff,” and finished on the perfect note with “Strobe.” (If you’re curious what other tracks Deadmau5 performed, just scroll down!)

deadmau5-4-copyDespite rumors that Deadmau5 wouldn’t be wearing the iconic mau5heads on this tour, he came on stage wearing one of my personal favorites, his yellow cheese mau5head. However, only one of the eyes on this head seemed to be working that night. Deadmau5 made light of the situation by posting the following to his fans on Facebook: “Thanks again, Boston! Managed to get it done with just one eye tonight! Lol, not sure what happened to the head there… oh well… pirate costume with gnarly patch it is then. :D”

In addition to the music that had everyone on the dance floor showing off their best moves, Deadmau5 also put on a killer light show. Each song had a different set of lights going off, ranging from orange words scrolling across his DJ booth to crazy neon green geometrics ~ even Minecraft and Super Mario visuals!

Whether you’re into the club scene or not, seeing Deadmau5 live is definitely a blast! Everyone is there to have a good time, and once you see the crowd go nuts, it’s hard not to join in the fun!
