The brewers at Samuel Adams have let us in on a little secret ~ their latest lot of original beers known as the Samuel Adams Single Batch. This eclectic group of limited-edition beers was hatched from the brewers’ most innovative recipes and imaginative pet projects, and each one is packed with flavor, creativity, and unique ingredients.
After much tinkering in the Boston brewery, the brewers are finally ready to release the very first beer in the collection ~ Samuel Adams Griffin’s Bow. Through experimentation with different recipes and aging techniques, the brewers took the traditional barleywine style to the next level and created this oaked blonde version ~ a variation they’d never tried before. Inspired by the legendary medieval griffin, a symbol of strength, courage, and bravery in English folklore, this barleywine’s strong, rich flavors live up to its name.
Golden in color and wine-like, Griffin’s Bow ~ 11.50% ABV) is characterized by a surprisingly smooth balance of fruity notes, hop citrus, and warming strength. Flavors of honeysuckle and grapefruit are layered with toffee, vanilla, and the distinct character of toasted oak. It’s a beautiful pairing for strong aged cheeses; Griffin’s Bow cuts through and contrasts the strong flavors of washed-wine cheeses with accompaniments of nuts, honey, and dates to complement the beer’s inherent flavors.
Samuel Adams Single Batch beers ~ which also include Tasman Red (a red IPA), The Vixen (a chocolate chili bock), and Third voyage (a double IPA) ~ are available starting this month and come in individual 22 oz bottles. The brewers are testing and perfecting other styles in the collection, so stay tuned!
These batch brews give drinkers the chance to experience the creativity of Samuel Adams brewers and the flavors that result ~ it’s an adventurous beer lover’s dream!!
