Some background on the artists…

ENRIQUE IGLESIAS AND EUPHORIA

Enrique Iglesias returns with his eagerly-anticipated new album, Euphoria. With its seductive pop, driving hip hop beats and heart of pure passion, Euphoria is set to bring a rush of blood to the dancefloor, with VIP guests including Akon, Nicole Scherzinger, Usher, Puerto Rican reggaeton duo Wisin and Yandel, Juan Luis Guerra and the legendary Lionel Richie.

His most diverse, eclectic collection to date, Euphoria is also Enrique’s first album to feature songs sung in both Spanish and English. “This territory is so exciting for me,” says Enrique. “It taps into so many different styles of music. It’s like nothing I’ve ever done before.”

“I Like It” was the first international single from the forthcoming album, produced by Red One; it features a vocal cameo from Lionel Richie, reprising the chorus of his timeless hit “All Night Long.” The track is an upbeat floor-filler and comes backed with a crazy hot remix from #1 selling US rapper Pitbull (“I Know You Want Me”).?Enrique was thrilled to work with his friend Lionel Richie, but it was Pitbull who really took it out of him. “Man, working with Pitbull, it’s like he’s got everybody in the world’s mojo, his energy is so intense. And shooting the video together was just insane… ”  add-to-september-tours-and-new-releases1

Other tracks on Euphoria include Enrique’s Spanish-language smash “Cuando Me Enamoro,” featuring Latin superstar Juan Luis Guerra, which crash landed in top 10s across Latin America and Spain on its release. Then there’s the sizzling ‘Heartbeat’, a duet with Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls. It’s utterly pop but emotionally naked. Says Enrique, “If you can create an upbeat song and still put sentiment in it like that… man, that song is raw.”

“One Day At A Time” is a departure into mellow calypso, the melody coming to Enrique after he had spent so long battling on the song that he was driving home from the studio in despair. “I turned straight round and went back to record it,” explains the perfectionist. “It was one of those special songs that make you fight for it.” “Dirty Dancer” is a party piece, thick with slamming synthesizers and featuring vocals from Usher, who announces that this is a song “for the dirty girls, all around the world.”

Born in Spain, raised in Miami, and now an international superstar, Enrique discovered his musical talent young, but got his first record deal from a small Mexican label while using a fake name. In 1995 he won a Grammy for his first ever Spanish release (Enrique Iglesias) and in 1999 his eponymous English language debut went on to sell six million albums, go double-platinum in the US, and achieve gold or platinum status in 32 countries. Since then he has had a string of successful albums, from Escape (2001), 7 (2003) and Insomniac (2007) to his Greatest Hits album (2008), while his sold-out world tours have established him as a captivating live performer.

In the US he is one of the biggest-selling Spanish artists of all time, with over 12 million albums sold and 20 #1 Billboard Latin hits across the Americas. Meanwhile, in the UK, Enrique has sold 2.2 million albums and 1.6 million singles, the biggest of which – the inimitable “Hero” – spent four weeks at #1 and is now a staple of teary X Factor scenes. Enrique has had 12 top 20 singles, and six Top 10 singles in the UK, including “Bailamos,” “Could I Have This Kiss Forever,” “Escape,”(f/ Kelis), and “Do You Know.”

Traditionally, Latin artists release Spanish and English versions of the same songs. “But I always wanted to combine completely different songs, rather than translate them,” Enrique explains. “I’d write one I liked in Spanish, but then I’d write one I liked even more in English, so then there’d be this internal competition to write an even better one in Spanish, and vice versa. The US is now the biggest market for Spanish songs, so this is an experiment.”

“I know people always believe their new record is the best thing they’ve ever done, but truly, this record is my most diverse, my most exciting and the most surprising album I’ve made in my career,” he says, grinning wildly.? The anticipation is tangible.

PITBULL and PLANET PIT

Cuban-American music sensation Pitbull has sold millions of digital singles (including his current hit “Hey Baby” featuring T-Pain, the double-platinum smash “I Know You Want Me [Calle Ocho],” “Hotel Room Service,” “Krazy,” and “Culo”); scored two No. 1’s on Billboard’s Rap Albums charts (his gold 2004 debut M.I.A.M.I. and 2009’s Rebelution, which also debuted at No. 8 on Billboard’s Top 200 chart); and has been featured on tracks by such pop-chart mainstays as Usher, Enrique Iglesias, Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, and Janet Jackson. On the business side, Pitbull (whose given name is Armando Christian Pérez) launched his own Polo Grounds Music/J Records imprint (Mr. 305 Records), introduced his specialty vodka Voli, inked major sponsorship deals with blue-chip brands Kodak, Dr. Pepper, Bud Light and capitalized on his enormous popularity in the community by releasing his first Spanish-language album, Armando, which features the Top 5 Latin Billboard pop single “Bon Bon.” To top it all off, the Miami native was awarded his hometown’s Key to the City as a thank-you for the positive PR he has brought Florida’s nightlife capitol.

So when Pitbull explains that he’s titled his new album Planet Pit because he feels as if the world is his right now, he’s not just blowing smoke. “I’m not suggesting I run the world, I just feel like I’ve built my own planet,” he says. “I’m catching a lot of people’s ears, whether it’s with my music or appearing on someone else’s track. When ‘I Know You Want Me [Calle Ocho]’ took off, I started traveling the world, and I saw the impact that a global hit can have — the way it brings people together. So now I’ve set my goals even higher. Going in to make Planet Pit, I said, ‘Okay, Pitbull was cool, Mr. 305 was great — now it’s time for Mr. Worldwide.’”

pitbull-planet_pit_deluxe_edition-frontalYou need to generate a lot of heat if you want to be Mr. Worldwide, but if there’s one thing Pitbull has — besides a way with rapid-fire rhymes, billion-dollar beats, and globally infectious hooks — it’s charm by the boatload. Always impeccably dressed in a sharp suit and shades, Pit enters a room trailed by his pals happily bantering away in Spanish, a gorgeous girl, and members of his management team. Even while juggling a constant stream of incoming texts and emails on his two smartphones, Pit has the ability to make everyone he meets feel at home, addressing them as “Mama” or “Papo,” and asking if they need anything. He’s the consummate professional: confident and charismatic — a true star.

Pit’s magnetic personality electrifies Planet Pit — a spicy, stylish stew of raps, beats, and hooks influenced by the music Pit has absorbed growing up and living in Miami, which claims a wide range of dance-driven sounds thanks to the Cuban, Dominican, Colombian, and Caribbean people who make it their home. “I grew up with salsa, merengue, bachata, booty-shaking music, freestyle music, then came hip hop for me. So you throw all that in a pot, which we call a paella in Spanish — that’s what I’m trying to do with this album,” says Pit, who performed in such far-flung locales as France, Indonesia, South Africa, Brazil, and Singapore, among others, while promoting Rebelution. “It embodies a bit of everywhere I’ve been. For example, ‘Shake Señora’ has got T-Pain, who’s from Tallahassee and Sean Paul who brings the Jamaican feel. I’m trying to be the ambassador; the bridge builder who brings elements from all over the world and puts it all together so it sounds like nothing you’ve ever heard before.”

The album’s new single, “Give Me Everything,” catches fire thanks to the sizzling talents of Ne-Yo, Afrojack and Nayer. Much like the single, Planet Pit is a star-studded affair that includes contributions by a host of pop music luminaries, such as singers Marc Anthony (“Rain Over Me), Chris Brown (“International Love”), and Kelly Rowland (“Castles Made of Sand”). To give the album its edge, Pit surrounds himself with a rouges gallery of today’s hottest artists that includes T-Pain (“Hey Baby”) and Sean Paul. To blend the album’s diverse sounds into a seamless flow, Pit tapped top producers like David Guetta, Afrojack (“Something 4 The DJ’s), RedOne, Polow Da Don and DJ Frank E. In fact, Pitbull’s “Come & Go” marks the first time that super-producers Dr. Luke, Benny Blanco and Max Martin work with Pit. “The goal for Planet Pit was to pack it with 10 big singles,” Pit says. “I want each track to be a huge record, not just two records and the rest is bullsh*t.”

With its relentless rhythms, the music is tailor-made for the clubs, but Pit has already proven that he can cross over to urban, Latin, and pop audiences with the Brazilian-influenced “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho),” which climbed to No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and hit the Top 5 internationally, including in the U.K. and Canada. His sound, combining hip-hop and Euro-dance elements with fierce rhymes and sizzling pop hooks, has proven to be a winner on the charts.

Onstage, Pit truly brings this highly personalized combination of styles to life by harnessing the raw energy of his live band. The interplay between the singer and the musicians creates a festive, spontaneous atmosphere that would be impossible to duplicate if Pit performed backed only by a DJ spinning tracks. “When the congas are pounding and the bass is thumping behind me, nothing can touch me. It feels like I’m riding a bolt of lighting.” But the real beauty of Planet Pit is that its creator never forgets his roots, and Pit’s wide-eyed appreciation for how far he’s come grounds his irresistible global music in a relatable humanity.

Pit learned the power of words from a young age. His parents were first-generation Cuban immigrants, and his father taught him to recite the words of Cuban poet and independence leader José Martí in the bars in Miami’s Little Havana. After his parents split, Pit had a complicated relationship with his father, who made a significant amount of money in the streets, but found that money that comes quick, leaves quicker. His mother also struggled to make ends meet, and Pit shuttled from one run-down home to another, even spending time with a foster family in rural Roswell, Georgia. Inspired by Nas and The Notorious B.I.G., Pit began rapping in high school after his mother kicked him out for dealing drugs. He managed to graduate and began to focus on his career, hanging out in clubs and performing wherever he could. Pit caught a break when Lil Jon invited him to appear on his 2002 album Kings of Crunk, and capitalized on the opportunity by following it up with several well-received mixtapes.

In 2004, Pitbull signed with TVT Records, which issued his three No. 1 independent albums, M.I.A.M.I.: Money Is A Major Issue (2004), El Mariel (2006), and The Boatlift (2007), earning Pit a reputation as rap’s most versatile leading man. Through collaborations with his mentor Lil Jon, Pit scored a number of club smashes, including “Krazy” and “The Anthem.” After leaving and signing to Polo Grounds Music/J Records, Pitbull continued to be recognized for his work, winning the first-ever “Latin Digital Download Artist of the Year” award at the 2009 Billboard Latin?Music Awards.

And now, as he gears up for the June 21, 2011 release his new album, Pitbull is ready to introduce the planet to Mr. Worldwide.

PRINCE ROYCE

There are but a handful of young, solo artists who dare to tackle the challenge of performing bachata music at the international level. There are fewer still who embody the charisma and talent to make the genre their own, in a way that?nobody has before. ?In a relatively short time, Prince Royce has done just that?and then some?by introducing the genre of bachata to a worldwide mainstream audience who had?never been exposed to it?and reaching unprecedented success in the Latin music industry.

Prince Royce’s?self-titled debut album?has?been certified?Double?Platinum by the RIAA and garnered?a?2010?Latin GRAMMY® nomination (for Best Tropical Contemporary Album),?three 2011 Premio Lo Nuestro Awards?and four 2011 Latin Billboard Awards.?“Prince Royce”features mostly bachatas fused with other contemporary rhythms like Pop and Rhythm and Blues, nine of them written by Royce himself.? It includes Royce’s tour de force first single, a bilingual and bachata cover of the classic and timeless 1961?Ben E. King song, “Stand By Me” which?he had the honor of performing?with none other than Ben E. King himself at the 2010 Latin GRAMMY®?Awards.

Royce’s rendition of “Stand By Me” became the first bachata song ever to be played on mainstream (Pop and R&B) radio in the United States.? The video of the song has been viewed more than five?million times on YouTube alone.? This, in addition to remaining on the top of the Latin Charts on Billboard and iTunes for many consecutive weeks and being asked to perform on the most highly-rated Latin TV programs and award shows,?has made the 21 year old?the top new solo artist?in the industry.

In April 2011, fifty-eight weeks after its release, “Prince Royce” became the #1 album in the country marking an unprecedented achievement for a developing Latin music artist.??The album which debuted at #15 on March 5th?of 2010, was in the top 20 by June and then reached the top 10 in September of the same year. On the last week of September 2010 the album reached the top 5 and “Prince Royce” has remained at the top 5 ever since, with the exception of one week in which it charted at #6.

“Stand By Me”?reached the #1 position on Billboard for tropical radio airplay and the #6 position on Billboard for overall Latin radio airplay (across all genres of Latin music).?. . something phenomenal for a new Latin artist with his first single.

And then, follow-up single “Corazón Sin Cara”?fared even better, shooting?up to?#1 on Billboard’s Latin songs chart (which measures Latin airplay across all genres), #1 on the tropical songs chart, #1 on the urban chart and?#2 on?the pop songs chart.??Both songs have reached #1 on the tropical downloads chart and the top five on the Latin downloads chart.  prince-royce-album

The young artist recently?completed a sold-out US Tour and he has toured Europe twice, spending several?months last year?selling out venues in Spain, Italy, Holland, Switzerland and Vienna.

Prince Royce’s talent as a composer, singer and actor in both Spanish and English, make him a triple threat . . . a gifted young man, already poised to become a major force in the entertainment industry.

So how does this young artist react to his sudden rise to fame? In typical Prince Royce-style, he takes it in stride, exuding confidence and humility.

“I had envisioned this a long time ago so it feels right and very normal. I always had faith, almost a feeling of certainty that this would happen as long as I worked hard enough and focused on my music . . . now the overwhelming feeling is one of gratitude,” he says smiling.

Geoffrey Royce Rojas was born and raised in the Bronx, New York into a humble but very close-knit family.? He credits his drive and determination as well his positive attitude to the influence of his parents.

“My mom had?also dreamt of being?a singer?when she was young, so she was?supportive from the very beginning,?and together with my dad, they instilled in me that with hard work, persistence and focus I could achieve anything. . . Music has always driven me and kept me happy so it was easy to stay focused, positive and away from any negative distractions,” he states.

His?initial?exposure to?bachata?also?came?from?his parents, who?are both from the land of the bachata, the Dominican Republic.?“They always instilled?a strong sense of cultural identity and pride?so I grew up listening to what all the other young people were into, hip hop, R&B, and pop, but also really loving bachata,”?he explains.?“I just never expected that I would ultimately launch my career within that genre.”

His experience?as a performer started in grade school where he?starred in talent?shows and plays,?and immediately felt comfortable on stage. “I liked the feeling of being able to portray any role?in front of a lot of people,” he explains. ?And while he?excelled at acting and dancing, he says his whole world truly opened up when he began to sing, “It felt so natural and free, I suddenly could portray any emotion?through the music, it felt that what I could achieve was unlimited.”

At 13 he discovered a new “hobby” that occupied all of his?time, fuelling his inspiration and bringing him closer to his ultimate goal. “I began writing poetry and eventually songs, inspired by the personal experiences and issues that affect?me and?my generation,” he recalls.

For the next few years he spent?all his?spare?time?experimenting and creating his music, spending any?money he earned?on studio time and musicians. The?Hip Hop and R&B?tracks he composed were good but it was not until he was asked to sing a few bachata songs to judge his quality as a?performer that?he realized exactly how he wanted to break into the music world.

It all?suddenly made sense to Royce. Drawing from his experiences and influences,?as well as the musical styles he loved, he?would create his own brand of bachata.

“It wasn’t a total surprise because I knew that at some point I would enjoy?performing traditional Dominican music, it just had not occurred to me as my first choice, but I am?so thrilled that it happened this way,”?he says.

Still, he promises that what will set?him apart will “not be purely bachata,” but rather more of an urban experience within the tropical genre.?“I want to take bachata to another?level,?adding different elements to modernize it and make it more relevant to young people, while also maintaining a respect for the?traditional sound I grew up loving”, he says.

So how did Geoffrey Royce become Prince Royce? “I?had a MySpace?site?and just ‘Royce’ didn’t seem?impactful enough as a title,?so I thought I would come up with a catchier name, I knew that?‘Royce’ means ‘the king’s son’, or someone of royal birth, so I started going by ‘Prince Royce’ and the fans loved it so it stuck.” he recalls. “But please do not think I believe the hype! My feet are firmly planted on the ground,” he emphasizes.

Nevertheless, the youngster has been blessed by landing in some of the best hands in the Latin music industry. After visiting several labels that passed on him, Royce met?with?renowned producer and Top Stop Music label President Sergio George?who automatically understood?his potential and signed him to the?independent?label.

Prince Royce?was?then?joined in the recording studio by a select team of industry experts that sealed the production?of his album with utmost?care and professionalism. “This was an incredible experience for me and I felt very excited to see the entire project come together to perfection with each recording”, says Royce with a look of?satisfaction. “The feeling of reliability and trust that comes from knowing you have the best team on your side when you are fighting?for your?dreams?is priceless.”

Well?on?his way to fulfilling his dreams, Prince Royce says that one of his missions in life is to encourage others to do the same.

“I hope to inspire many?young people?to always remain positive?and strive for their dreams.?I want to?be the kind of?artist that is able to touch people’s hearts through my lyrics, so that before I leave this world I am able to make?a positive difference the?lives?of others”.

Prince Royce’s?creative fusion of styles, melodious voice and charisma, added to?his?steady tenacity,?will ensure that?this talented young man?continue to take the music world?by storm, earning?international recognition?and allowing him to make a mark?on his generation.

THE RED JUMPSUIT APPARATUS’S AM I THE ENEMY

It’s been three years since their last full album but The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus are back with the release of their third studio LP,  Am I The Enemy.

With nearly 2 million records sold worldwide, Am I The Enemy is the sound of The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus in fighting form.  For a preview of what to expect from Am I The Enemy, give a listen to powerful single “Reap.”

Recorded with producer John Feldmann [Goldfinger], the effort explodes with 12 hard-hitting rock tracks and was released on August 30 via Collective Sounds.

Art often thrives in the aftermath of adversity, and since we last heard from The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, there have been plenty of variables that the five-piece alternative rock act has had to endure. But for the Middleburg, Florida-based band, hardships eventually ironed out thanks to unwavering perseverance, paving the way for the band’s incredibly ambitious (and aptly titled) The Hell Or High Water EP in 2010, followed by its third and highly anticipated long player Am I The Enemy.

Like the EP that preceded it, the project comes under a partnership with the band’s management company,  The Collective.  Don’t You Fake It on the heels of the band’s voluntary parting of ways with Virgin Records, the company that first signed the band. Reconnecting with its DIY roots, Am I The Enemy finds the guys sounding more on fire than ever before, exuding confidence at every razor sharp turn of the amplifier or bellowing vocal execution from impassioned front man Ronnie Winter.

dasdasd“It’s been three years since our last full-length album, and in the time between, there’s been a lot of rebuilding where we’ve gotten a lot more focused, sorted out all our behind the scenes issues and got to the point of just really wanting to make a new record,” the front man asserts. “We knew that the fans were behind us after their support of The Hell or High Water EP, but we wanted to take our writing to the next level without having to worry about any of the business stuff and just put all our focus on the music. It was just like riding a bike; right after we got into the studio, the training wheels came off and we were ready to get dangerous and test our limitations.”

Besides the band’s enthusiasm and tenacity, additional creative prodding came from producer John Feldmann, perhaps most familiar for his role as Goldfinger’s ringleader, but also known for behind the scenes work with The Used, Story of the Year, Good Charlotte, Plain White T’s, Saosin and Neon Trees (amongst countless others). Though the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus guys were lifelong Goldfinger fans, the connection came very organically after a co-producing session.

“It was totally genuine and we weren’t even looking for a producer type of deal, but just wanted to come up with some new ideas,” recalls Winter. “We sat around with two acoustic guitars and right off the bat we clicked. We wrote the first single, “Reap,” and then turned around and wrote “Salvation” on the same day. We jumped right into demoing both of those songs a week after that and one thing led to another. Our work ethics blended really well, it was a ton of fun and there was no drama, which all made a huge difference in creating a record we’re all really proud of.”

Adds Feldmann: “It was a piece of cake working with the Red Jumpsuit guys. They were full of ideas and a real pleasure to record. Every one of them brought something unique to the record. This was a really fun record for me to make. Super talented musicians. Plus I kicked all their asses at ping pong.”

As for the tracks contained therein, die-hards and newcomers alike can look forward to a slew of sonic risks, wrapped around the group’s signature, post-hardcore, alternative rock romps. “There’s some cool digital programming and drum sound experimenting that we’ve never tried before and some crazy new chords with some really cool half step progressions,” reveals Winter. “John really opened some doors for us and I think any of our fans who are also musicians will notice it right away. Some of the chords are really peculiar sounding, but crazy awesome and cohesive with the rest of the record.”

A major case in point comes from the aforementioned “Reap,” which Winter asserts spawned the direction of the entire record thanks to its searing choruses, chugging verses and a ballsy “goes around comes around” attitude. The singer and producer’s second collaboration “Salvation,” is an in your face anthem for anyone who’s ever faced adversity, while “Fall From Grace” firmly addresses the major label red tape from the group’s past and the eventual realization that they’d have to make music on their own terms. “Dive Too Deep” demonstrates the decade-nearing band dusting off an old riff that guitarist Duke Kitchens dreamt up when the guys were mere teens, but with a campfire crackling and the beer flowing, Winter finally found the right melody to match the undeniably catchy, emotional apex of the record.

As for the underlying theme, Am I The Enemy continues in the group’s thought-provoking, politically-charged direction that peppered previous projects but had never been this bold. Regardless of one’s party line or personal beliefs, the band is sure to get listeners diving deep into the linear notes as they’re faced with probing rhetorical questions.

“We travel abroad all the time and I definitely feel like there’s a weird cloud in other countries regarding their perception of Americans,” explains Winter. “There seems to be this feeling that they think of us as bullies or the world police, though I don’t see it that way, especially when we’ve played for troops in Iraq, Cuba and here in the States. Sure there are problems, but if Am I The Enemy had a question mark after it, I would respond as a 28-year-old American by saying we’re actually trying to help strife-ridden countries learn about democracy, capitalism and freedom. We may have a bad economy and lying politicians, but as a society, I think we live in one of the greatest countries on earth.”

ERASURE RETURNS THIS FALL WITH BRAND NEW ALBUM: TOMORROW’S WORLD

The Band Also Announces US Tour Dates for the First Time in 5 years!

Synthpop pioneers Erasure are back with Tomorrow’s World, the band’s first album in more than four years. The new album is out Fall 2011 and is produced by one of the UK dance scene’s most exciting new talents, Frankmusik, whose remixing credits include Lady Gaga, Pet Shop Boys, Ellie Goulding, and Far East Movement and whose solo album Complete Me debuted at number 13 in the UK Albums Chart.  Tomorrow’s World was mixed by Rob Orton.

After Erasure’s triumphant return to the stage for Short Circuit presents Mute at the Roundhouse, London, a one-off performance which saw Vince Clarke perform with very special guests Alison Moyet and Feargal Sharkey, plus a performance at 2011’s Ultra Music festival, Erasure is bringing the new album to the U.S. for their first tour in five years! The 25-date US tour begins August 31st in Tampa, continues through September, and finishes in Seattle on October 6th. Tickets went on sale Friday June 24th at Ticketmaster, as well as TicketFly. Ticket presales, which will offer a chance to preorder the new album Tomorrow’s World, started on Wednesday June 22nd. Anyone preordering the album will get exclusive early access to tracks from Tomorrow’s World before the tour starts!

asdasdasdasdTomorrow’s World was written in New York, London, and at Vince Clarke’s cabin studio in Maine following a short break, which found Andy Bell recording and releasing his second solo album Non Stop, and Vince Clarke reuniting with former Yazoo partner Alison Moyet for a recent tour.  It was recorded in Maine, London and Los Angeles between January and June 2011, with Vince using his vintage collection of analog synths for the final touch.  The end result is a collection of electronic songs that sound totally contemporary and classic at the same time.  All songs are written by Bell and Clarke.

From Lady Gaga to La Roux, the futurist, electronic sound Erasure championed is more relevant today than ever, and once again re-charging the global music scene. The award-winning duo of Vince Clarke and Andy Bell unleashed on the nation a succession of both influential and chart-topping pop anthems.  Songs like “A Little Respect”, “Sometimes”, “Victim Of Love”, “Ship Of Fools”, “Chains Of Love”, “The Circus”, and “Breathe,” ensured a formidable presence on the singles charts complemented by five consecutive No 1 albums in the UK including “The Innocents”, “Wild!”, “Chorus” and the beginning of the worldwide Abba revival “Abba-esque”.

Tomorrow’s World is set for release on Mute in Fall 2011.

Catch the band on Sat., Sept. 10th at the Boston House of Blues.

ROGER DALTREY TO PERFORM THE WHO’S LEGENDARY “TOMMY”

Roger Daltrey, the iconic lead singer of The Who, is set to perform the band’s legendary rock opera Tommy in its entirety from start to finish on a much anticipated six-week AEG Live-produced tour this fall that will be stopping in Boston on Saturday, September 17 at Agganis Arena.
Daltrey premiered the spectacular show at The Royal Albert Hall in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust on March 25 and has now taken the show on the road, which launched its U.K. leg in July to rave reviews. Employing the use of striking visuals to accompany the music, every show will be an unforgettable concert experience for lifelong fans and newcomers alike, who will be treated not only to the full majesty of Tommy, but also to a variety of Who classic and more. yjtyuy
Tommy is not only one of the most acclaimed and defining works of the rock era, it is an enduring work that resonates on radio to this day where it has found multi-generational appeal. Inducted into The Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998, the 20 million-selling double album also spawned a successful 1975 film of the same name ~ with Daltrey playing the title role—which re-underlined its place in the cultural firmament.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Daltrey is pulling out all the stops with a full band that will bring the rock opera’s wide-ranging sounds and textures to life vibrantly on stage every evening. Joining Daltrey will be Frank Simes (guitar and also music director/arranger), Scott Deavours (drums), Jon Button (bass), Loren Gold (keyboards) and also on guitar will be Simon Townshend, younger brother to The Who’s guitarist Pete Townshend.
Throughout this tour, songs such as “Pinball Wizard,” “The Acid Queen,” “I’m Free,” “See Me, Feel Me” and “We’re Not Gonna Take It” promise to transport attendees into the world of this classic with shuddering intensity and poetic power. A 1989 tour by The Who saw them reprise Tommy live but the upcoming Daltrey tour will differ in that all of the songs will be played in sequence. After performing Tommy in its entirety, Daltrey will tear through a set of other classics by The Who (“My Generation,” “Baba O’Reilly,” “I Can See For Miles”) plus rarities and more.

VP RECORDS & WARNER MUSIC NASHVILLE BREAK NEW GROUND WITH

REGGAE’S GONE COUNTRY

14 Iconic Country Songs Covered By Jamaica’s Top Musicians Featuring Contributing Vocals by Country Legend Larry Gatlin

VP Records and Warner Music Nashville are proud to announce the release of Reggae’s Gone Country on August 30, a seamless musical dialogue between Kingston and Nashville that connects the roots of both genres. The ground-breaking compilation features classic country hits covered by Jamaica’s top musicians (Beres Hammond, Tarrus Riley, Tessanne Chin, Etana, Luciano, Sly & Robbie) as well as supporting vocals provided by original recording artist and country icon Larry Gatlin of The Gatlin Brothers.

Check out the American Songwriter premiere of Busy Signal’s take on Kenny Roger’s “The Gambler:”
www.americansongwriter.com/2011/07/exclusive-hear-the-gambler-from-reggaes-gone-country

Country music devotee Cristy Barber, Vice President of Marketing and Promotions at VP Records, the world’s largest reggae label, and a Grammy nominated producer for the 2003 dancehall reggae-hip hop compilation album Def Jamaica, envisioned this project two years ago and teamed up on lead production with John Rich of the multi-platinum selling country duo Big & Rich and the winner of this year’s Celebrity Apprentice, and the acclaimed Jamaican saxophonist and top reggae producer Dean Fraser.

Reggae’s Gone Country is taking some of Jamaican’s favorite classic American country songs and putting their beats and whole instrumentation around it while still having that root of country… It is this crazy cool idea,” says John Rich.

American country music and Jamaican reggae share many similarities. Both genres are rife with love-gone-wrong songs, romanticized gritty outlaw tales and expressions of unwavering spiritual devotion providing guidance through daily struggles, each delivered in their distinctive regional voices, the molasses thick Jamaican patois heard on many reggae tracks and country’s indelible southern twang.

trytyrtyCountry has been a part of the island’s musical catalog for years. “Everyone from 20-year-old kids to their grandparents listen to country in Jamaica. People are always so shocked when I say this, but the music plays such an important role in the Caribbean,” states Cristy Barber.

Romain Virgo, 21-year-old reggae singer and 2007 “Rising Stars” winner (Jamaica’s equivalent to American Idol), adds, “Country Western music is something that I grew up listening to. You look for it every Saturday morning. These are the songs that we play to get us in the work mood and those songs would carry you right through the day.”

Reggae’s Gone Country opens with Virgo’s rendition of the Gatlin Brothers’ 1979 hit “California,” with Larry Gatlin himself contributing vocals. Duane Stephenson also puts his distinctive stamp on “Suspicions,” the late Eddie Rabbit’s mega country-pop hit from 1979. Dancehall reggae artist Busy Signal, more often associated with spitting out rapid-fire rhymes, offers an inspiringly sung rendition of Kenny Rogers’ country-pop Grammy Award winning blockbuster “The Gambler.” The two young Jamaican songstresses, Etana and Tessanne Chin, shine in their respective renditions of Patsy Cline’s “Crazy” and Crystal Gayle’s “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue.”

The majority of the album was recorded at Kingston’s Grafton and the Marley owned Tuff Gong Studios. The tracks were mixed by Errol and Shane Brown, then sent to Nashville where they were embellished with country instrumentation by legendary pedal steel player Mike Johnson and Jonathan Yudkin on fiddle/ banjo with John Rich overseeing the production at Fireside Studios, formerly owned by the late country legend Porter Wagoner.

Barber hopes that the heartfelt renditions of country classics heard on Reggae’s Gone Country will introduce and educate music fans everywhere to the talent that exists in Jamaica. “There are people who love Bob Marley or Jimmy Cliff but don’t know how great Tarrus Riley is or what a Tessanne Chin can do or this 21-year-old kid Romain Virgo,” notes Barber. “That’s what this is about, people might know Sly and Robbie but don’t sleep on the skills of Dean Fraser, Errol Brown or other talent down there. With the music industry where it is now, we need more people at the reggae party and I am really hoping this album will give more exposure to the genre.”

Chicago, IL pop-punk thrash combo So Many Ways have just revealed the cover art, track listing and release date for their Mightier Than Sword Records label debut.

rtyrtThe self-titled album will be out on September 13, 2011 and is now available for pre-order in a variety of bundles at: store.mtsrecords.com/products/11935.

3. Sleep Mask
4. Murf’s Life Hints
5. 37 Chambers

Since their formation in January 2009, So Many Ways has had their fair share of lineup changes. After recording the Real Talk EP with Jay Maas (Defeater, Bane) at Getaway Group studios later that summer, the band played a few shows together before parting ways with their then-bassist, drummer, and keyboard player.
rtyyrty
Not soon after the departure of those members, guitarists Jason Milbank, Murphy Welch and vocalist Colin Corley found themselves with a brand new rhythm section. After traveling to Florida to play a short string of shows, the band recorded their Floridian EP with Chris Hiser (Away With You). Floridian hinted at SMW’s heavier influences, but only showed a glimpse into what the band would become.

After saying goodbye to yet another rhythm section later that year, So Many Ways welcomed drummer Keith Dow into the mix. The band recently added bass player Chris Catterson (ex Nightlights and Away With You) to the lineup and is ready to hit the road this month in advance of the EP’s release (see dates below.)

Members:
Colin Corley (Vocals)
Jason Milbank (Guitar/Vocals)
Murphy Welch (Guitar/Vocals)
Keith Dow (Drums)

PETER BJORN & JOHN

The Swedish indie-pop trio shares an epic, all-encompassing visual treatment for every second and every song of their latest full-length, Gimme Some, directed by Ted Malmros and Gustaf von Arbin.

Peter Bjorn and John have been called a lot of things in their time. But one thing they have not been called is ‘Supertramp’. This is both a tragedy and a blessing, as the Swedish Rockers and the British conceptual progressive art rockers have next to nothing in common. It is a little known secret that Bjorn, John and Peter (who shall from now on be referred to as Peter, Bjorn and John), met in the summer of some time ago, in the small fishing village of Bysthållare on the west coast riviera of their native Sweden. Their bond: instant. Their style: Jazz.

rty54tryrPeter is a semi qualified pirate, with only 4 more plank walks remaining before his graduation to Private Pirate. He has a ship, called ‘Spongebob’ moored in The Pirate Bay, in Sweden.

Bjorn is a musical misfit in sheeps clothing, and can recite on demand the full lyrics to Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells, in reverse, while holding a pina collada. Just ask!

John was famed in his local shopping mall for only using escalators to ascend to the next floor. To this day he still demands motionless stairwells to motorize his journey upwards. He has spent many weeks standing and shouting on the bottom step of any one of the 1005 staircases that adorn his apartment.

Nobody could have guessed what the future held for these 3 professional chat show hosts. Despite numerous visits to psychics, prophets, wizards and fishmongers not one person guessed that they would be the authors and performers of the 3rd most succesfull song (featuring whistling) of all time. Yes the beautiful ode to childbirth ‘Young Folks’ came a mouth watering 5 points behind winners, ‘Wind of Change’ by the Scorpions, and the alternate theme tune from Magnum PI.

The mild success catapulted them into a spotlight the size of a small car’s headlight. And caught like rabbits they had nowhere to turn. The boys stuck to what they knew and churned out album after album of forgotten classics. Scouring the globe playing to audiences of literally hundreds. With various guest appearances from Kanye West, Perry Caravello and Bruce Willis, the live shows reached new mesmerising highs, culminating in the fateful Altamont Fiasco which spelled the end for the worldwide security organisation known as the Hell’s Angels.

Their latest album, the thrillingly titled Gimme Some, is their latest, vein attempt at pop magnificence. Another shot at the cake. A kick in the back of failure, and then running away before it gets a chance to kick you back. And you know what? In my opinion (my being you), they have achieved such a wonderous feat. Let’s get physical!

– Ed Warren December 2010.

World Wide Rebel Songs is the 14th studio album of Tom Morello’s influential career.  When describing World Wide Rebel Songs, Morello stated, “Troubled times call out for troubled songs. World Wide Rebel Songs is an album of rousing hopelessness and this time The Nightwatchman has brought along his electric guitar to tip the scales. I wanted to capture a vibe midway between Johnny Cash and Che Guevara, murder ballads and Molotov anthems.”

Tom Morello recently released a benefit EP called Union Town. All profits from Union Town will benefit The America Votes Labor Unity Fund via SaveWorkers.org. The studio recording consists of 8 pro-union songs featuring three Morello originals, as well as the Woody Guthrie classic, “This Land Is Your Land” (including the more radical, often censored verses).

NEON HITCH RELEASES NEW EP BAD DOG

Neon Hitch’s new EP, Bad Dog, is out now and features the album version of “Bad Dog,” which wasproduced by legendary producer Benny Blanco (who has also produced hit songs for Ke$ha, Britney Spears, Wiz Khalifa and Katy Perry), as well as three remixes of the song from Discotech, Jason Nevins and DJ Chuckie. Out.com said that Neon could be “…the next big thing in pop music. And with tracks like ‘Bad Dog,’ she’s well on her way.”werwrwe

The NY Post proclaimed that “Neon Hitch has all the elements of an A-list female pop queen” and Idolator just featured her as one of their Top 11 Women About To Pop and said of her performance at their SXSW party earlier this year, “London firecracker Neon Hitch…[whisked] onto the stage and [belted] out an array of her addictive electro-pop jams. It was an incredible glimpse at what the sexy singer-songwriter has to offer.”

In addition to being a great talent, Neon has an amazing back story. As a kid, she grew up on a bus, traveling the world as a trapeze artist and street performer. BBC even did a documentary on her life. At age 10, Neon began writing poetry, which led to her writing lyrics. Over the next handful of years, Neon found herself traveling with friends all over Europe, and living in squats in London as she pursued her singing career.
