Live Music + Disc Golf + Good Beer = One Damn Good Time!

abstract dark blue graphic designI don’t know about you, but I’d be hard pressed to find a better way to spend a summer weekend than enjoying disc golf, amazing beer, gorgeous settings, live music, and just a generally awesome vibe ~ all without having to break the bank at the pump. June 17-19, head to Hyland Orchard and Brewery in Sturbridge, MA (just 5 minutes from the Route 84 exit on the Mass Pike) and get ready for one of the best weekends of the summer!

What can you expect? Well, first off, Hyland is the perfect setting for an outdoor musical event. The huge 40′ x 80′ pavilion covering the stage ensures that Mother Nature won’t get a chance to rain on the party ~ and that the sun won’t get a chance to burn you to a crisp. There’s nothing that can spoil this killer line-up: Dopapod, Goosepimp Orchestra, The Alchemystics, Nate Wilson Group, Dub Apocalypse! (featuring members of John Brown’s Body/Nate Wilson Group/G-love/Morphine), Fennario, Otis Grove, Viral Sound, Seed, Sun Jones, The Phreaks, Wobblesauce, Wolfman Conspiracy, Rising Tribe, Reverend Green’s Hot Grits, SunLea, SuperSwank, Jabooda, Insigniya, and Big Jon Short. And if you feel like exploring, the grounds are gorgeous…and oh yes, the beer…Pioneer Brewing Company, right on the Hyland grounds since 2004, brews 7 year round craft beers and 5 seasonal brews; there are outdoor taps pouring 5 different freshly brewed Pioneer beers made just feet away. Oh yeah, now we’re talkin’.

Alright, I have to issue a warning before talking about the next big part of the weekend ~ disc golf. For those of you who already play, this information will come as no surprise ~ for those of you who have yet to give it a shot, listen carefully: IF YOU LOVE BEING OUTSIDE AND HAVE A COMPETITIVE NATURE…DISC GOLF CAN BE VERY ADDICTING!! Disc Golf is taking off all over the entire country and is the fastest growing “new” sport in terms of popularity. Hyland Farm’s tournament caliber disc golf course was designed by local pro Don Boutin 1 year ago and forms a figure 8 with the pavilion in the middle ~ so when you’re playing, you can see and hear the music onstage from 16 of the 18 holes of play. NICE. If you have never played, think of it as walking through nature, tossing a Frisbee with a group of friends, and either being good-naturedly competitive or going for the jugular (of course, you can play by yourself, too, to work on your skills, but pretty soon you’re going to want to join up with a group and show ‘em what you’ve got). And no worries, if for some reason disc golf doesn’t sound like it’s for you, not a problem ~ come for the beer, the music, the cool stuff the vendors will be selling, and the good times…

OK, we’ve established that you’re not going to want to miss Disc Jam 2001, right? Awesome ~ see you at Hyland Orchard and Brewery later this month!
