The waxing trend has been gathering steam in the US for a number of years as part of many women’s beauty routines, and now it’s become de rigueur for men as well.
Grooming, skin care and bikini waxing is no longer gender-specific ~ finally! Men tend to shy away from waxing because they think it could be too painful, or too embarrassing ~ but with the popularity of waxing with celebs like David Beckham and Enrique Iglesias (does it get hotter than these two?!), and development of new waxes, many men are opting for a sexy and smooth look ~ and their ladies are loving it.
In today’s age, males are also caring more and more about their skin and aesthetics, and are priding themselves in being beauty conscious. The old taboos are now being broken and men are no longer shy about going to salons and getting their nails, hair, and waxing done.
Here are Jaira’s Waxing Salon Top 10 Tips for Male Beauty:
1) Put your best face forward: clean your face daily. Men have oilier skin than women and you should be cleaning your face at least once per day. Use a light scrub or products with as few chemical additives as possible.
2) Moisturize your skin daily, especially in the winter ~ and do not forget your hands, feet and even bikini line area.
3) Use sun block on face and neck, even in the winter. Statistically, men are outside more than women and generally have a larger surface area that gets exposed to the sun.
4) Use a good shave and after shave cream. Do not use products with alcohol for after shave, and also stay away from products that are too heavily scented (product scents should enhance the natural masculine smell, not drown it).
5) Embrace waxing. Many men now turn to waxing to achieve a clean, smooth look on back, chest, eye brows and underarms ( especially in warmer weather) and Brazilian Waxing. It is the perfect alternative to shaving and trimming since it lasts a lot longer and it leaves the skin very smooth. (Jaira uses an array of hard, soft, and sugar waxes.)
6) After waxing, be sure to exfoliate the skin to prevent ingrown hair. It might sounds trivial, but ingrown hairs can be a real pain.
7) Pay attention to your nails. Well-manicured nails and toes contribute to good hygiene and grooming habits. It’s true what they say, that women will scrutinize your shoes and your nails as they’re forming their first impression!
8) Maintain your mouth! Having good dental hygiene is vital in your personal and professional life. Take proper care of your teeth as well as your breath by using mouth wash and by brushing your tongue, too. Your tongue is where a LOT of bacteria hang out, just waiting to cause bad breath…NOT a turn on.
9) Use a toner. Since males do spend more time outside than women, their skin tends to attract more impurities; a good toner will eliminate impurities of the skin.
10) Lastly, don’t forget to take care of those gray hairs (please don’t “dye” your hair at home ~ go to a professional salon and have it “colored” for the most natural outcome) and use good quality shampoos that don’t have salt in them.
