Now this is Progress. Want to enjoy what’s all the rage in New York City without leaving Worcester? A few of the restaurants on Shrewsbury Street have come together to offer a progressive dinner. The six course meal is priced at $60 per person and includes transportation in a trolley between the venues. Participants include the Flying Rhino, Piccolo’s, and Sweets. Speaking of the Rhino. They are now offering a $5 bar menu, a $5 martini special and a $5 special of the day for lunch.
Parkway makeover. The venerable Parkway Diner on Worcester’s Shrewsbury Street is undergoing a makeover. The third generation owners are redoing the dining room and expanding the bar. Word has it that they will be opening evenings on a regular basis.
Jeff’s closes. Jeff’s on Worcester’s Shrewsbury Street has closed its doors after about a dozen years in business. Jeff’s was a mainstay on the street for a number of years. We hear that Jeff has been tending the bar at Biagio’s on Worcester’s Park Ave. The Harvard educated Jeff is one of the greatest bar tenders in the city.
Aglio closes middle of December. Aglio’s, located on Route 12 in West Boylston, shuttered its door in mid-December. No word on whether another restaurant will move into the space. We were disappointed to hear that owner Anthony Piccorello was selling gift certificates the day before he closed. Maybe there ought to be a law about this.
AND NOW SOME GOOD NEWS…
Wings over Park Ave. Wing It Up, a new wing restaurant located at 511 Park Ave. in Worcester, opened recently. The wing shop is next to Pho Da Koa in the old T bird Pizza. They are ideally located on Worcester’s West Side and are an easy stop for local college students on that side of the city.
DQ. A new Dairy Queen recently opened at 328 West Boylston St. (Route 12) in West Boylston. This is the first new Dairy Queen in the area in over a generation. Prior to the opening of the West Boylston store, the nearest DQs were in Spencer and Clinton. The DQ is owned by family members Nick & Erin Moudios, Nicky Pirperis, and Jamie & Teddy Galios.
Nuovo is New. Worcester’s TriBeCa Restaurant at 92 Shrewsbury Street has new owners and a new name. It will now be called Nuovo. Loretta & Alexsander Gjonca and Rajmandi Shaahj will be opening the eatery shortly. We will keep you posted on the concept.
It’s gone into overtime. A new sports bar ~ The Overtime Tap Factory Sports Bar & Grille ~ will be opening at 50 Front Street in Worcester, former home of McFadden’s. At least 2 of the 3 owners have substantial restaurant experience. The manager will be David Ledux, formerly of Firefly’s in Natick and Vinny T’s. Matt Bousquet, who is currently the manager of Park Ave’s Peppercorn’s, will also have a hand in the day to day activities and is an owner, as is Greg Takacs
