And yet another Japanese restaurant.
Rumor has it that a Japanese steak & sushi restaurant named Hirosaki Prime will soon open on Grafton Street in Worcester near the intersection of Sunderland Road.

New Irish pub. It looks like a deal may be in the works to reopen the restaurant in the space that once housed McFadden’s Restaurant at 50 Front Street in Worcester, directly across from City Hall.  This time, the new owners may opt to do more food and less beer, a choice which will be welcomed by those who work downtown.

Beechwood news. The Beechwood Hotel on Worcester’s Plantation Street just received their Fourth Diamond from AAA.  This is a huge honor for Worcester’s only Boutique Hotel, putting it in a whole new class.  Needless to say, owners Charlie and Janet Birbara are very excited and happy.

Boston Wine Expo. The 20th annual Boston Wine Expo will be held at the Seaport World Trade Center  on Boston’s waterfront on Saturday and Sunday,  January 22 and 23, 2011.  This event draws oenophiles from across the Bay State and New England.  It clearly has become one of the premier tasting events in the country.  In addition to the hundreds of wineries present, familiar names including Ming Tsi, Todd English, Gordon Hamersley and Jasper White head an all-star lineup of some of Boston’s best chefs. Over 300 wineries from around the globe pour over 1,800 wines for you to sample.  It’s simply the biggest and the best!  Tickets start at $85 per person.

Put more wood on the fire. The Firewood Café at 222 Chandler Street in Worcester has finally opened its doors.  The 20 seat eatery features a wood burning beehive oven.  They will be serving pizza, calzones, and smoked meats.  The owner is Vasken Chagaian.   The café will be open 11am-10pm Sunday to Thursday and until 2:30 am Friday and Saturday.  508-459-2227.

Pepperoncini’s opens. Pepperoncini’s, a pizzeria & grill that offers a full menu of Italian specialties, has opened a second location at 201 East Main St, Milford. It opened the last week of November. Hours are 11am to 12:30(midnight)am Tues –Thurs and Sun., 11am to 1am Fri. and Sat., closed Mon.  They have 11 flat screens with a full NFL package and are adding entertainment on Thursday nights starting this month.  Their first location is on 486 Concord St.  in Framingham. www.hotpizzacoldbeer.com

Byblos opens.
Byblos, a new Middle Eastern/ Mediterranean restaurant, has opened at Worcester’s Union Station.  The restaurant will be open Wednesday to Saturday.  In addition to food, it will feature a lounge and will have late night entertainment.
